There are over 180 members of the Federation and their territory spreads across 8,000 light years. The Federation is governed by the Federation Council, composed of representatives from the various planets and led by the Federation President. The agency responsible for all deep space exploration, scientific research, and peacekeeping operations for the Federation is known as Starfleet. Starfleet provides security and defense for all member worlds and colonies of the Federation through its vast fleet of starships.
