Venroe symbiont
|
|
Venroe is a Trill symbiont currently joined with Ariealt Kinan. It is a young symbiont, just 37 years old. Those familiar with the symbiont often refer to it as "cursed" or "a Starfleet brat" due to its penchant for short-lived hosts and careers in Starfleet. Venroe's hosts are often influenced to strike out against the Symbiosis Commission and disapprove of the current methods of joining.
History
The Symbiosis Commission approved the joining of Venroe and Etan Ocal in 2368. Venroe influenced Etan in a peculiar way, enforcing a kind of rebellious streak not previously present in his personality. In 2374, he further defies the Symbiosis Commission and joins Starfleet (claiming to be Venroe's "idea"). This choice prompts outrage within the Symbiosis Commission. He is frequently contacted by officials, determined to inform him of his reckless nature. Rumours the Commission demanded an "emergency host" placed aboard Etan's posting in 2381 circled frequently but were never confirmed. However, Etan asks to choose Venroe's next host, claiming them to be "in case of emergency", on his own terms.
Out of a class of potential hosts, Etan settles on Akyra Sentoss, an aspiring technician. He spends two weeks with her talking up Starfleet and the Venroe symbiont. Akyra, sceptical of Etan's claimed arrangement, agrees to take on the symbiont in the unlikely event he is mortally incapacitated.
In September of 2383, Etan is killed in action aboard the USS Venus during a pirate attack. The symbiont is transferred to Akyra.
With Etan and Venroe's influence, Akyra abandons her career in technology and (inexplicably) explores counselling. She joins Starfleet, and is posted to the USS Avandar.
In 2391, Akyra's isoboramine levels begin to steadily decline. Akyra's body rejects the symbiont, despite efforts made by Doctor Pouge Romey. At Akyra's direction, Romey contacts the Trill homeworld in hopes for a nearby host prepared to take the symbiont.[1] He supplies Akyra with a list of candidates, one being Lieutenant Ariealt Renya Kinan, an aide-de-camp on Deep Space X. Akyra chooses Kinan.
Kinan initially refutes joining with Venroe, insisting Romey send Venroe to Trill, but Romey explains that doing so isn't an option. After a few more attempts to convince her, Romey informs Kinan how Venroe only has two previous hosts. Kinan (reluctantly) agrees to go through with the joining.[2]
