Backstory/Timeline
Merik was born on Rekar III in late 2374. His parents, Eveh and Rhean owned and ran their own shop in a smaller town. They were tailors by trade, fashioning clothing the old ways by hand. Merik led a fairly average life for a Rekarian. He attended early education regularly with an interest in history, fascinated by the combined cultures of local populace with the Romulans who'd be stranded on their planet millennia ago. When he was twelve years of age, devastation hit the Romulan Star Empire when the Hobus star went supernova. And though Rekar had declared independence, his parents chose to move their family to Earth as they believed the instability of the former empire would soon hit their homeworld.
Once they had emigrated to Earth, Merik continued his education alongside mostly human children, still holding a love of history, now for his new home as well. Military service was never considered a requirement for his people, but with tales of Starfleet often told among the other children, Merik chose to follow that path hoping to document not only Starfleet's still forming history, but those of the worlds he would encounter.
