Background

While Tholin carries himself with a calm and composed demeanour, he is not without moments of frustration or vulnerability. His sharp Andorian wit often surfaces in tense situations, a habit he developed to defuse pressure and mask his own nerves.

Tholin uses sarcasm and subtle humour to lighten tense situations, though he’s not the best at delivering it at the right time. Despite his capabilities, Tholin sometimes questions if he’s truly good enough to meet the high expectations set by his bond group and Starfleet. He hides this insecurity behind a composed front. Tholin often pushes himself too hard, staying up late to study reports or run simulations. He struggles to accept that failure is a part of learning. Unbeknownst to most, Tholin finds solace in music, particularly traditional Andorian wind instruments. While he’s not a great player himself, he carries a small, hand-carved flute his co-father Irrek made for him, a quiet reminder to embrace creativity.

Tholin’s decision to join Starfleet instead of the Andorian Imperial Guard was a source of tension within his bond group, particularly with his father, Kerath. The choice stemmed from a combination of personal rebellion, curiosity, and a desire to carve out his own identity.

Growing up, Tholin always felt the weight of his bond group’s expectations. His father often spoke of the honour and discipline of the Imperial Guard, pushing Tholin to consider a military career on Andoria. However, Tholin chafed at the idea of simply following in his father’s footsteps, feeling it would limit his opportunities to explore and grow beyond Andorian traditions. Joining Starfleet was his way of asserting independence. It wasn’t an outright rebellion but a carefully calculated decision to pursue a path that allowed for both duty and discovery. His choice was not without its struggles, he respects his father deeply and wrestled with guilt over defying his wishes.

Tholin is methodical and focused in his duties, rarely acting without carefully assessing the situation. However, his perfectionist tendencies can make him overly cautious, occasionally causing friction with more impulsive team members. Despite this, Tholin has a knack for staying calm under pressure, often taking on a leadership role in crises.

In social situations, Tholin can be reserved but polite. He prefers to observe and analyse before speaking, and his dry sense of humour often takes people by surprise. While he struggles with small talk, he values deep, meaningful conversations and is fiercely loyal to those he trusts.

Tholin entered Starfleet Academy determined to prove himself beyond the legacy of his bond group. The rigorous training, though challenging, felt familiar after years of discipline instilled by his father. His upbringing on Andoria prepared him for the Academy’s physical demands, while the diverse perspectives of his bond group gave him an edge in strategic thinking and problem-solving.

At the Academy, Tholin gravitated toward Security and Tactical Training. He excelled in combat simulations, tactical planning, and threat analysis. His ability to assess risks and devise strategies under pressure made him a natural fit for the Tactical Officer track. While his Andorian bluntness sometimes caused friction with peers, his unwavering reliability and commitment earned him their respect over time.
