Mission Synopsis

Shoreleave was simple for the crew of the USS Athena as both the Athena and the USS Victory needed repairs from their recent engagements. The crew found ways to entertain themselves from parties on the holodeck to a picnic/award ceremony presented by the captain.

The crew was exhausted from the months of traveling through slipstream and their numerous encounters with the Agragon Empire.

Through the week, low level talks between the Dryarian Confederation and Captain Faranfey finally yieled a special liaison, Arda Iristi, who would represent the Confederacy when needed.

The initial briefing of a terrorist attack against their Uplifting protocol sparked some heated debate and though most were calmed down, it already showed how much the mission would be a charged one.

The leader of the terrorist organization, The Natural Order, had destroyed a Uplifting Station which killed the repair team that was onboard. With fear of continued attacks and the refusal of the Dryarians to back away from their protocol, the Federation was requested as a third party to help find a solution.

Nothing goes according to plan when the mission first starts as Romani has seized a Research Station known as UP-9. The Athena plans a mission to seize Romani and station as negotiations were deemed not possible with man as dedicated to his cause as he is. The biggest concern is more loss of life.

At the same time as the Athena was making its way to attempt to seize Romani by surprise, Engineers Sabrina Holly, Cassandra Ezi and Rudolf Calvin have to deal with a strange virus that infests the ship's computer. Though they are able to get it under control, no one was quite sure where it had come from and how it could be so vicious.

The campaign led by the terrorist organization calling itself the “Natural Order” against the Dryary Confederation has escalated to a new level of violence as the extremists took control of the Dryary facility known as Protocol Station Nine.

The USS Athena, commanded by Captain Selene Faranfey, has been dispatched on site as part of a joint Dryary/Federation anti-terrorist task force, but found itself under heavy attack the second it entered the station's system.

Attacked by cloaked ships of unconfirmed origin, purportedly Cardassian, Captain Faranfey had to order the vessel to split, the stardrive section taking the Athena’s civilian personnel to safety while she remained behind with the saucer section to fight off the attackers and evacuate the station’s crew.

The members of the away team sent to help with the evacuation had to fight for their lives at every turn, and while they managed to delay the station’s self-destruct mechanism, initiated by the terrorists, long enough for the remnants of the crew to make their escape, they couldn’t prevent the destruction of the station itself.

While no official figures have been provided, the toll is expected to be heavy. Witnesses among the station’s crew declare that before starting the self-destruct sequence and making their escape, the terrorists, led by one Mevon Skane, have gratuitously murdered the senior staff and several technicians.

The Athena has retreated to the Dreamstar, the alien station serving as its center of operations in the Gamma Quadrant, to treat the wounded and undergo some necessary repairs.

Fortunately, the crew has received some more than welcome reinforcements from the Bajoran wormhole: Ensign Daruneis will join the Athena’s Intelligence Department, Lt. Scott Merlin will lend his expertise at the helm, Lt JG. Femi Cattan will bolster the ever-busy Medical Department, and Lt Cmdr. Alexander Williams will take the role of First Officer, after Lt Cmdr. Frank Hawkins stepped down and requested a transfer back to the Alpha Quadrant.

More surprisingly, the newly-appointed Federation Ambassador to the Dryary Confederation turned out to be none other than Nugra, the Gorn Captain who had been reported dead last year. Questioned on his unexpected comeback, Ambassador Nugra commented that the report of his death had been “greatly exaggerated”.

We’ll keep you updated with what we uncover as to Ambassador Nugra’s apparent resurrection.
