Background
Aki graduated from the University of Tokyo in with a dual BS in Physics and Applied Mathematics, then went on to an MS in Applied Mathematics at UCLA and a Ph.D at Oxford, again in applied mathematics. She has spent the last decade working as a civilian researcher for Starfleet as a lead scientist for the QSSD project. Upon successful test of the drive, she decided to change careers and was accepted at Starfleet academy.
