Background
Solkon was born on Vulcan in the year 2373, to Satok, a Vulcan Astrophysicist, and his wife T’Ria, a former Starfleet Medical Officer. Solkon was the couple’s youngest child, and according to his siblings, their mother’s favourite. Raised on Vulcan, Solkon embraced Vulcan ideals at an early age and lived the traditional Vulcan lifestyle. In accordance with Vulcan tradition he was betrothed to his intended, T’Pava, during his childhood years. The two have remained committed to the betrothal and intend to see it through once both have completed their respective paths of study.
Although his father had hoped Solkon would, like his other two children, pursue a scientific career, from his early school years it became clear that Solkon wished to enter a career in the medical field, like his mother.
Although both of his parents pushed Solkon to enrol in the Vulcan Medical Institute, Solkon instead chose to enrol in Starfleet Academy, in order to study and practice medicine on a more diverse array of species and enhance his opportunities for learning and further study. Privately, he also wished to leave Vulcan and his parent’s influence and pursue his own path, though he still felt a sense of attachment to his home planet. Despite his rejection of his offered place in the Medical Institute, both of his parents came to understand the logic behind his decision, and held no ill will towards Solkon. His elder brother Sakar, however, viewed this rejection as an insult, and the two brothers have not spoken since Solkon entered Starfleet Academy.
During his academy years his written and practical work was highly praised by his teachers, though many have commented over the years that Solkon’s ‘bedside manner’ could be greatly improved upon. Solkon, for his part, does not see the logic in lying to his patients. Ever.
