History:
Joseph grew up in an average household. His parents were both teachers on Earth. The only contact he ever had with Starfleet was through his uncle, a retired Starfleet Admiral, who was his inspiration for joining.
His time at the academy wasn't as unsuccessful as he thought it was, he has always suffered from a lack of confidence, despite his Major Degree in Security and Minor in Tactical.
Although he wasn't the most academic student at the academy he did excel at one particular subject. He enjoyed his combat training, particularly the martial arts training he received from a Commander Lovak, a Vulcan with a security background who taught at the academy. If Joseph was to consider anyone a mentor it would have been Commander Lovak.
Despite Joseph's apprehension he is very anxious to move on and get to his next posting.
