Kallo Ver is a Valtese 'trader' whom resides in the Shoals. He was introduced to the crew of the USS Veritas in late 2392 when he was caught smuggling the illegal narcotic, karasone, in colonial space. After a two day transit to take him to Colonial Coalition Marshals Service custody, he escaped from the Edria City marshal's office about a month later, quite literally slipping through the hands of his arresting officers. He was last seen heading into the Shadows, where it's presumed he has a place of residence.
He was apparently on board the freighter Tiburon when it destroyed Yorba Station, and is the only known survivor of the incident when he was discovered by the crew of the USS Veritas in 2394.
In 2395, he arrives at Outpost 3 to give the repair crews much needed materials and equipment to get the outpost operating at capacity again. However, in return, he asks Captain Roshanara Rahman for a favour to be repaid in future.
Though Kallo is in reality, a common criminal, he has never lied to an investigative officer regarding his crimes, often to their surprise, being totally truthful about all facts to the point of explaining whom his accomplices are and where they can be found (much to their irritation) - however, there have been the rare occasions where Kallo lies by omission. He generally believes honesty to be the best policy regardless of his rather illegal escapades. Kallo is, however, incredibly difficult to catch and keep in one place, quite slippery and a master of escapes.
Kallo is not heartless, unwilling to leave Veritas crew members to be harmed when the Tiburon begins to collapse in on itself, rendering assistance without being prompted. He also exhibits a generosity some would find surprising, but there are limits to this. He ultimately values himself above all, and if he believes cutting others loose is the best way to save himself, he will do just that.
Trivia
- Despite being arrested for violation of the Prime Directive, Kallo was recognized with the Kusnadi Society’s Samaritan Award for smuggling pre-warp aliens out of the Maelstrom. He received a medal (of which he proudly wears) and a small vessel.
- Regardless of one may introduce themselves to Kallo, the Valtese will (and deliberately goes out of his way to) continue referring to them incorrectly, even after attempts to correct him. So far, he as incorrectly referred to;
- Sky Blake as "Just Commander Blake" - likely due to Blake's attempt to stop him from referring to her whole name and title when speaking to her during his first arrest.
- Captain Roshanara Rahman as "Captain Ramen" - though this may actually be a legitimate pronunciation error on Kallo's part.
