The crew of the Independence has been deployed to the Devil's Gate region to investigate a distress signal from the USS Benjamin Franklin just outside FTU space heading towards Bull's Run, an uncharted area of space that even the Klingon's wouldn't go near.
Several Klingon ships were reported missing in the area prior to the Franklin's distress signal, including the Makjoda which was drifting on impulse power for four weeks before their signal was intercepted. The area seemed to be littered with subspace anomalies and space storms of unknown gravimetric forces.
