Merik was born on Rekar III in late 2374. His parents, Eveh and Rhean owned and ran their own shop in a smaller town. They were tailors by trade, fashioning clothing the old ways by hand. Merik led a fairly average life for a Rekarian. He attended early education regularly with an interest in history, fascinated by the combined cultures of local populace with the Romulans who'd be stranded on their planet millennia ago. When he was twelve years of age, devastation hit the Romulan Star Empire when the Hobus star went supernova. And though Rekar had declared independence, his parents chose to move their family to Earth as they believed the instability of the former empire would soon hit their homeworld.
