Aridal Mirak is the only child of the Romulan diplomat and dissident Vurir and the Vulcan scientist V'Liraa. Vurir, who served as a Romulan diplomat in the Federation prior to the Treaty of Algeron, had a relationship with V'Liraa. They both fell in love with each other and married in 2309.

Vurir stayed in the Federation when the Romulan Star Empire isolated itself after the signing of the Treaty of Algeron in 2311. In the year 2330, Aridal was born on Earth where the Romulan-Vulcan couple lived.
Aridal Mirak is the third child of the Bolian diplomat Hars and the scientist Chialara.
After the end of the Romulan isolation in 2364 Vurir hoped that there would be a chance to change the Romulan Empire from within. So Vurir secretly went back to Romulus and joined a dissident movement in 2366 that sought to change Romulan society, due to his idealistic ideas. The ultimate goals were rapprochement with the Federation and reunification with Vulcan.
He has two older brothers and one younger sister. They live in the Bolian community on Earth in the city of London.
In the year 2368, however, the contact to his father was lost.
This is also where Aridal was born and raised.
V'Liraa moved back to Vulcan with her son.

Aridal Mirak was born on Earth in the year 2330. As a half-Romulan, he did not have an easy childhood, as his parents' marriage was viewed with suspicion by some Federation citizens.

Aridal Mirak was born on Earth in the year 2365. He grew up in the Bolian community that can be found in the city of London.
Being raised on Earth meant that he was raised in a non-Vulcan society and more in his father's Romulan tradition in which Aridal was very interested.

In 2373 when Aridal was only 8 years old, his father was killed by a Dominion attack on a Federation vessel near the Romulan Neutral Zone. He later learned that although officially being neutral, the Romulans had turned a blind eye to Dominion forces crossing their territory. Because of that the Dominion ships had been able to ambush the vessel and his father was killed. Since that time Aridal has harboured a grudge against the Romulans as he made them responsible for the death of his father.
When his father decided to go back to Romulus in 2366, it was a difficult time for the family. V'Liraa and Aridal stayed behind on Earth as it was considered too dangerous for them to join him. Two years later, the contact to his father was lost and V'Liraa and Aridal moved back to Vulcan to be nearer to V'Liraa's family.

Being raised on Earth also meant that he came into contact with many different species and cultures and he enjoyed that and took interest in that.
He completed his education on Earth and then decided to follow his co-father’s wish to go back to Bolarus IX in order to study at the Bolian Academy of Applied Sciences.

At the Bolian Academy of Applied Sciences, he studied astronomy as he had always been interested in the question how the universe around him worked and all its phenomena. After six years of theoretical study, it was a logical step for him to join Starfleet Academy. His co-father wanted him to join the Bolian Scientific Society, however, he chose to leave Bolarus IX and was supported by his mother.
He also wanted to join Starfleet as he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, who had dies in his service to the Federation.

Moreover, he increasingly longed for his time back on Earth, which he regarded in retrospect as his happiest time.

So now, at 49, Aridal had to find his way on Vulcan. During this time on Vulcan, he also immersed himself in Vulcan philosophy and logic under the now stronger influence of his mother and her family. He studied in depth the writings of Surak, Kiri-kin-tha and T'Plana-Hath. He really tried to learn about and live the Vulcan way of life. However, he did not feel he belonged, because while he found some elements of Surak's philosophy really helpful and beneficial, it was very difficult for him to stick to their absolutely strict implementation as practised by most Vulcans. In particular, it was very hard for him to completely suppress his emotions.
Nevertheless, he tried hard to implement those rules and even joined Vulcan High Command to start a career on a Vulcan vessel in 2379.
However, due to his partly Romulan origins and his emotional nature, he was not accepted by all Vulcans. After several years of service, he found it increasingly difficult to completely suppress his emotions and took leave of absence from active service. He came to the conclusion that although he was attracted to the Vulcan way of life, he could not and did not want to transfer it completely to himself.

Moreover, he increasingly longed for his time back on Earth, which he regarded in retrospect as his happiest time because he had to experience less rejection there compared to Vulcan..

After some time, Aridal made up his mind to try and join Starfleet. Because of his service in the Vulcan High Command, Aridal did not have to attend the Academy, but was accepted into the service straight away, albeit only at provisional rank. Now he has yet to find his place in Starfleet.
In the year 2396 he joined Starfleet Academy. As a typical Bolian, he was used to dedication and hard work, but he also took part in several social activities. His grades were good and he decided to major in the field of science. In the year 2400 he graduated and was assigned to the USS Gorkon.

{{LCARS-bar-left|Personality|200|COLOR=Darkred}}

Aridal is a responsible and analytical person. Because of his studies of Vulcan philosophy, he very much appreciates the values of logic.
Even from a young age, Aridal could be described as an extroverted and out-going young Bolian. He really liked to be the center of attention perhaps due to the fact that he wanted to draw attention to himself because of his two older brothers. Aridal tends to talk too much, especially when he is nervous.
You could easily mistake him for a Vulcan, were it not for his slightly Romulan appearance and the fact that he does not completely suppress his feelings.
Unlike other Vulcans, he has not adopted the very strict Vulcan teachings though he uses some techniques to suppress too intense emotions.
He has an attitude of hard work combined with practical judgement.

Aridal is a reserved person when it comes to his private life or past. This is due to experiences of rejection he has made in his life and his Romulan heritage.
He is very rule-abiding and strict to himself and also towards others as he also expects them to follow the rules.
He might seem as a very tough person on the outside, but if you know him a bit better, you can see that he can be kind, decent and caring in spite of his rugged and rather emotionally cold facade that he built up to protect himself.

Deep inside he struggles to find his place as he does not really know where he belongs: he is no real Romulan, he is no real Vulcan.

Aridal is also a social and generally happy person. He tends to talk too much, especially when he is nervous. Even though he may not feel like it himself, he always tries to highlight the positive, to cheer others up or to be there for them. Sometimes he also hides his real feelings behind an always happy, optimistic and jovial face. Aridal really values harmony and does not like conflicts. When working on problems, he tends to think out loud and likes to work out ideas in a team with others. Towards others, he could be described as a helpful, warm and empathetic person. He bases his decisions on personal values. Moreover, Aridal is a quite spontaneous person and enjoys surprises and new situations, which could also lead him into trouble or even into dangerous situations at times. When he considers someone a real friend, he is a good sport and loyal.
Due to the tragic loss of his father when he was young, he has a personal aversion and prejudice towards Romulans.

Background

The Earth Years 2365-2385

Aridal Mirak was born on Earth in the year 2365. He grew up in the Bolian community that can be found in the city of London. In 2373 when Aridal was only 8 years old, his father was killed by a Dominion attack on a Federation vessel near the Romulan Neutral Zone. He later learned that although officially being neutral, the Romulans had turned a blind eye to Dominion forces crossing their territory. Traditionally, the Sheathed Sword is given to those who are injured and explore the aftermath of that event. Vanessa Driscoll changed the order a little bit of a different order, but created a narrative that was just as compelling. During our mission, Lt.
