Personal History

Jalek's entrance into StarFleet began with his Grandfather Commander Te'lorn Eth of the Romulan Tal'Shiar. Te'lorn was among the elite of the Tal'Shiar until he was framed for conspiring with a known enemy and convicted of High Treason against the Praetor. This enemy was none other than Spock, who was spending time on Romulus attempting to reunify the Romulan and Vulcan people. In truth, Te'lorn did meet Spock, but only met him once in passing. When they met, Te'lorn didn't realize who he was speaking to until it was far too late. With the Tal'Shiar about to arrest him, Te'lorn hunted Spock down and begged him to get his young daughter, Te'lena, off Romulus and to safety. Te'lena would never see her father again.

Spock was successful in getting Te'lena, who was at the romulan equivalent of 13 at the time, to Vulcan. With his own contacts, and those of his father Sarek, Spock was successful in hiding the adolescent Romulan Girl away on Earth in an adopted home in London, England. Spock and Sarek had taught her the basics of Vulcan logic. When she got older, she would marry Joseph Trollin and together they would have a son: Jalek.

Professional History

About a year prior to entering the Academy, Jalek's mother received a message from one of her father's closest friends and now retired special agent of the Tal'Shiar. She knew this man and considered him as her uncle. He invited Jalek to come to romulus for several months. Jalek accepted the invitation. While on romulus, this man that Jalek would later refer to as his Uncle began teaching Jalek all about combat piloting from small shuttles, to battleships, as well as space tactics and how to find weaknesses in enemy vessels. He taught Jalek about romulan security counter measures, about the Cloaking devise, and how to fool most sensors and disable them with ease. When Jalek returned to Earth, he applied to Starfleet Academy. It took the recommendation of Spock and Sarek both to permit the young man entrance.

Jalek graduated from the Academy in the top 10% of his class. He excelled in piloting and flight school, being described as a "Natural Pilot". He also set the speed record for piloting "Titan's turn". Afterwards, he entered command school, where he finished in the top 20% of his class. He would have graduated higher had he done better with his Kobyashi Maru exam, which he "failed" four times. After his final attempt, a mock trial took place where Jalek was tried for violating the Romulan/Terran treaty. During the Kobyashi Maru exam, Jalek had his engineers built a working cloaking device that allowed Jalek to pilot his ship undetected into enemy space.

Upon graduation, Jalek was assigned to the USS INDEPENDENCE under the command of Jessa Anassasi. He would serve as one of her tactical officers, and later become her chief tactical officer. During one mission with a psionic space alien, Jalek's empathic and psionic abilities were awoken. Jalek's family came from a pure linage that dates back to their Vulcan ancestors. Through the tutelage of the ship's counselor, who was a Vulcan trained Betazoid, Jalek learned how to use it. However, his abilities seem to work only on those he is emotionally close to and others of Romulan and Vulcan ancestry. Jalek would continue serving aboard the INDEPENDENCE and would ultimately achieve the rank of Lt. Commander and become the Second Officer. During his last mission, Jalek was aboard a Romulan vessel where he fell into a coma. The last thing he remembers was coming aboard the vessel, then waking up some two years later. Before resuming his duties, His captain ordered Jalek to go through a refresher course.
