When Evan steps into a room, he is not the person to cause attention. However, within his quiet demeanor there is also a kind of self-assurance. He seems very in-touch with himself, is not looking for confirmation and - if in his comfort zone - is an easygoing and not very demanding colleague to work with. For most people he is a nice person to be around, as you barely even notice him until he speaks up. He adapts to new environments quickly and doesn't mind working alone. At the same time he tends to overthink social situations and does not well under pressure or in direct combat. He is a leaver and struggles to stay in one place for a longer period of time. Despite that, Evan prefers a desk over a phaser every day.

Timeline

Evan was born in 2359 in the area of Boston/MA, Earth. He never met his biological mother, as he was taken into social care and raised by foster parents from the age of two. This never turned out to be a problem - actually, Evan proves an excellent example for the functioning social system of the federation. He lived in the loving home of Sandra and Boris Stirling and also went by the name of Evan Stirling for some periods during his life, even though he returned to his birth name at some point. He has a much older sister who still lives on Earth with her family. However, since their parents have died, they have not seen each other a lot.
After finishing school, Evan went into shipping and cargo business in the private sector. He worked on outposts, coordinating the shipment and delivery of tools, food and shelter material - sometimes for the federation, sometimes for different parties. He found himself fascinated with space very early on, but never saw himself in the actual fleet.
After the death of his parents he went to work in more isolated outposts for a small but profitable shipping company, continuing to supervise cargo and construction sites of all sorts for different clients. For his job, he naturally learned a lot of languages, as the private translation devices often weren't as highly evolved as the fleet's. He got used to being on his own a lot of the time, sometimes spending several weeks alone in one outpost, distracting himself merely with books and TV. Due to his constant moving and his wide variety of clients, he worked with a lot of different people, species and parties. Often he found himself in the role of a negotiator and spent a lot of time calming down furious clients.
In his mid 30s Evan still hadn't really settled anywhere for more than a few years, and he decided to apply for the academy out of sheer impulse. To his own surprise he got accepted as a cadet and graduated from academy four years later at the age of 40, having deepened his knowledge in languages and communication strategies. He majored in Intelligence, minored in Com/Ops and was assigned to Starbase 118 Ops as an Intelligence Officer. He struggled to adapt to the fast-paced environment at first, but connected quickly with his new colleagues and has now settled in a small and simple C-style apartment on the base.

Friends & Colleagues

• Alora DeVeau

Alora was the commanding officer in Evan's academy training. They met up later and shared a dance at his graduation party. He is very fond of her leading style and was more than pleased to receive her invitation to visit Betazed along other friends of hers. He enjoys their regular catch-up dinners and appreciates her insight to any challenges life offers.

• Rustyy Hael

Rustyy was the first colleague to invite Evan along - they soon discovered their shared love for food and enjoyed great conversations. He has become a close friend of his during the short time on 118 - he loves the engineer's hearty manner and his uncomplicated way to take life.

• Corey Wethern

Ross would never admit to actually like Corey - their constant banter has become infamous on the base. Together they solved numerous rainy mysteries in the holo-suite and never miss a chance to pick on the other. Underneath their constant back and forth lies a deep appreciation for the doctor's lighthearted manner.

Family

• Christina Stirling (55)

Sister - Being much older than him, Christina and Evan never had much of a relationship. When he moved out, she already had two kids and lived with her husband. Whenever he visited their parents, he also stopped by, but ever since they died he missed out on regular visits. Evan feels very guilty about this and recently used his chance to make amends with her during a visit in Boston. They are still working on their relationship, as do him and his niece Robin, who has a child of her own by now.
