Background

Ntombokuqala, Ket's mother, was a skilled bladesmith on Ligon II. She worked in the port city of Ndonsa when she met a young Klingon Merchant Marine by the name of Gadin Nagh. After a brief affair, he left the planet and Ntombo discovered she was pregnant. The strictness of the Ligonian culture frowned on her unwed pregnancy, so she joined a convent near the city to raise her child quietly.

Ket was born at the Chweba Convent and raised by her mother and the nuns there. She was given the name Khethukuthula, which means "Choose Peace." Chweba was a place of discipline and honor, and there were few children in the area. Ket grew up surrounded by stern adults and developed a quiet, placid demeanor. She was trained in Ligonian Battle Forms from the time she could walk.

Ntombo left the convent and married into the Shoba family when Ket was 15. Along with her new stepfathers, Ket now had four stepsiblings and the press of city life to adjust to. A fifth child was born to the family a couple of years later.

When she was 18, Ket applied to Starfleet Academy. She was eager to learn about other cultures, especially that of her biological father. Discipline and defense come naturally to her, so she decided security was a good place to begin her journey.
