The Atedas, sometimes known as Atedians, are an amphibian species native to the planet Ialnys, which are said to be among the galaxy's first spacefaring races.

Their homeworld was located in the Outlying Territories of what became the Valcarian Imperial Republic, until it was decimated by cataclysmic events. The Atedas then relocated to the planet Iena, which they renamed Dronni IV and claimed it as their new homeworld.

Physiology

The Atedas are easily distinguished as humanoids with smooth blue-green skin, red eyes, lipless mouths and long thin noseless faces. Both females and males have hairless scalps, though both genders are easily distinguished. Their large red goggle-like eyes also have slit pupils.

Society

While usually taciturn, the species is stereotyped by many as greedy, ambitious, lazy and cowardly, with few exceptions. As one of the first cultures to develop warp-capable spacecraft (some even believe the first), Atedas-charted trade routes are among the oldest routes still in use in the Valcarian Empire. Even with the stereotype, Atedas are still known for their superior astro-navigational skills. More popularly, though, Atedas are known as criminals and crimelords.

Early in their interstellar history, the Atedas founded an empire that was based in mainly in the Outlying Territories though it also covered a portion of the Par'tha Expanse. Their empire set the Atedas up as eternal overlords of the other species in their territory. At some point in history, the Ateda empire collapsed as a result of internal fighting between the various clans and the devastation of Ialnys, which has never been sufficiently explained. Eventually, the fighting was resolved and the Atedas became governed by the Clans of the Ancients - currently known as the Ateda Grand Council. The Council oversaw the operations of all Ateda Clans, favoring none of them, but governing all of them fairly.
