Born in Charlotte, NC to a modest family of space traders, Thomas grew up on a small Federation freighter called "The Queen City". He was home schooled while traveling the stars with his parents. Never the quick study, it took an extra two years to pass the entrance exam into the academy.

To this very day, Thomas' parents still make cargo runs between Earth and it's outer colonies providing medical and food supplies. His parents had always wanted him to stay with them and travel the stars, assisting the Federation in their support efforts, however, Thomas had always wanted to be an officer. The adventure and tells of some of the most famous Starfleet officers had influenced many of his earlier desires.

After being accepted into the Academy, Thomas struggled with some of the more advanced classes, mainly in the sciences, thereby he chose to go into security and diplomacy. He excelled at the physical nature of security, showing athleticism, hand/eye coordination, and combat technique.
