Like most young people Raakel applied to the symbiosis commission at the age of eighteen, however her application was rejected in the early stages due to the fact that her interviews showed that she did not really want to be joined but instead applied through peer pressure. Raakel was never athletically gifted or very capable in social situations as a young lady but she did have a talent of academic studies and was always fascinated by science in particular Physics. At the Age of Eighteen she was accepted into the Physics and Astronomy program at the university of Mak'ala, Raakel graduated in twelfth in her year.
After a year’s break from studying Raakel joined the academy at the age twenty three intent on pursuing a career in the field science. However early during Raakel was given the Ells symbiont, as Kymble Ells had died on a heart attack on earth and she was selected as the best possible match for the Symbiont. Raakel initially refused to be joined but was persuaded after an hour long conversation via subspace from a representative of the Symbiosis Comission.
The Joining dramatically changed her personality almost instantly. Her timid nature and social awkwardness was replaced with confidence, assertiveness and bravado. Her interest in science and studying slowly wavered as she found it difficult to focus on a subject that did not give any kind of adrenaline rush. Three months after her joining Raakel transferred her academy course to Tactical and joined many of the martial arts clubs run by the academy.
Raakel took the kobayashi maru test three times and unfortunately Raakel failed all three attempts.
The Ells is classed as an Immature Symbiont, having had only one prior host Kymble Ells. Kymble was an athlete and a regional champion gymnastics champion when he got the Ells symbiont. Kymble continued to compete until a severe knee injury forced him to leave his sport, while the knee was repaired by the doctors Kymble complained that it never ‘felt’ the same. Upon leaving his sport, Kymble joined a freighter and quickly found than he had a knack of the buying and selling of less than legal goods. Kymble was able to buy his own modest freighter after only six years and continued in his choose profession until he died. In his later life Kymble became a man of excess, Kymble died from a heart attack while visiting a lover on earth, at the time of his death he was 94 Kilos (207 pounds) overweight.
