Hey there, I'm Tom.

In the fleet, I typically play Lhandon Nilsen on the USS Oumuamua. In real life I'm a maths teacher & SEN Tutor. I'm also a part time podcaster. Please feel free to reach out on discord (tom_space_man) if you want to JP or work on wiki/lore projects together.

Sherlock has nicknamed the HCO as Number 16, and at this time, Nilsen does not know why. He's a good kid, but he's got a bit of a temper and he's known for rushing head-first into situations. He's often found hanging out with his best friend Toxin Arlill, and working on some kind of project. "He's a good kid, with a good heart, he just doesn't make the greatest of choices''

T'Larn is a vulcan linguistics researcher who took a position on the USS Oumuamua to aid the crew in understanding the effects of the E-cho Micronebulua. After her assignment was complete, she elected to remain on the Oumuamua. Her main field of study the difference in syntax and speech pattern between humans and other species with a particular focus on humor	Private Link Jenson is currently serving as a Marine aboard the USS Octavia E Butler. He has a positive disposition and often has long drawn out trains of thoughts which he often expresses. Jenson was born on Betazed to a Human Father and a Betazoid mother. His reading abilities manifest as his ability to do what he called a "vibe check." A quirk of his birth was that rather than sensing emotions and reading them in his brain, he instead see's an aura around people, with different colours representing various emotional states and intensities.

My preferred area of research is humour, more specifically, the difference in syntax and speech patterns between humans and other species. If I may indulge, human humour is certainly most…universal. He let his mouth keep talking, as another idea popped into his head. Jenson: Or there might flesh-eating monsters in that cloud that will ::Gesturing a twist of a head with his hands:: just rip all our heads off and drink our blood like a can of core breach. ::he then gestured as if he was drinking from the can:: Core breach was an energy drink that many a Starfleet officer had relied on to get them through a long shift. Link enjoyed it, it had extra fizz. He came in a rich blue metal can and had a screw lid on top, somewhat like a flask. He then realized that he was getting looks. He was having another one of his long drawn out trains of thoughts that left others wondering if he was; a) Okay or b) Dropped on his head as a child. O’Reilly: You doing alright there Private? He looked up at Teddy as he spoke. Jenson: What? ::shug:: It might happen. I’m just being realistic. ::offering the second slice of buttered toast to O’Reily:: Toast? Want a piece? It’s buttery!

Per’cel "Percy" Jer-Legrand (born Jer Per’cel) is an HCO officer serving on the USS Octavia E. Butler. In mid-2401, he transferred from the USS St. Albans. He is due to be debuted in the next shore leave.

Torka Mikal	Intercessor Ulto'Delarento

Torka Mikal was a Bajoran farmer who lived on Alpha Brenkelvi II approximately 65,000 years ago. He served as a representative for his people when communicating with the USS Oumuamua crew, particularly Ensign Lhandon Nilsen. Torka used Nilsen's body to communicate verbally with the away team, while Nilsen's consciousness was kept safe elsewhere. Torka and his people existed in a non-corporeal form after their physical bodies were destroyed by what they called the "Eye of the Night" - later identified as a weapon on Alpha Brenkelvi II's moon. They communicated primarily through sharing images and ideas rather than spoken language. Torka formed a quick and strong connection with Nilsen, acting as a guide and translator between his people and the Starfleet crew. He showed Nilsen and others visions of his people's past life on Alpha Brenkelvi II, including scenes from their marketplace and daily activities.	Intercessor Ulto'Delarento is a Cheydalanga diplomat from the planet Cheyd'lang. He has a distinctive appearance, being larger and more rounded than other Chey'd, with a longer beak. Ulto speaks in a bold, deep voice and refers to himself in the third person as "this one" as is the custom for his people. As an Intercessor, Ulto represents his people in diplomatic matters. He has shown interest in establishing relations with the Federation, while also harboring a desire to dismantle the Chey'd'bacla, the caste system on his planet. Ulto is a father to three children: Luto, Rani, and Jeto, and often expresses concern for their well-being. Ulto has demonstrated complex motivations, sometimes engaging in secretive plans while maintaining a diplomatic facade. He appears to be working towards change on his planet, though his methods and true intentions are not always clear.
Lower Tenente Domeni'Dolce	Sahiana Ordana

Lower Tenente Domeni'Dolce is a Mongar Chey'd military officer on the planet Cheyd'lang. Key characteristics include: - He has a short beak and tough, keratinized scales on his skin - As a Mongar, he belongs to a lower caste in Chey'd society, often serving as soldiers, laborers, or technicians - He rose through military ranks over 9 years to reach the position of Lower Lieutenant (equivalent to Starfleet's Lieutenant Junior Grade) - Domeni'Dolce shows a desire for change in Chey'd society, particularly in elevating the status of Mongar - He expresses interest in education and skill development for the Mongar, hoping they can contribute more to society beyond military roles - In diplomatic situations, he appears somewhat inexperienced but eager to represent his people's interests (OOC: Domeni'Dolce's character was designed to show that there is potential for change within Chey'd society.)	Currently, in the process of being written, Ordana is a Dachlyd medical examiner who works for Special Criminal Investigations, working out of the USS Themis.

Newsies Team	I joined Newsies in October 2023, and I've conducted Lower Decks and Award Winner interviews. As of June 2024, I started the Role in Focus series that takes a closer look at the different roles in the fleet. You can find my work at this link

Tom's ability to weave a rich tapestry of Lhandon's life beyond his duty post has been remarkable! He has skillfully portrayed Lhandon's virtues, flaws, ambitions, and (most recently) his romantic life, giving us a well-rounded character who feels alive. Tom's dedication to developing not only Lhandon, but also his other characters, demonstrates well his commitment to collaborative storytelling. The Sheathed Sword Award	The Sheathed Sword is awarded to individuals who choose to inflict mental and/or physical suffering on their character, then dig into the following feelings and decisions in a realistic manner. The term is derived from a passage in a Robert Jordan novel in which a warrior must be prepared to 'sheath the sword' in their own body, i.e. incur a painful wound to attain one's objective (in this case, more realistic simming) rather than a genuine aim of the character.	Tom's willingness to put Lhandon through significant mental and physical challenges is probably second to none -- Tom loves torturing him! However, this year's nominators specifically called out the mission at Alpha Brenkelvi and its aftermath, in which Tom deftly explored Lhandon's mind-body split and subsequent recovery. This showcased the care and commitment Tom puts in to ensuring Lhandon's realistic character development. His exploration of the aftermath, including Lhandon's struggles with basic functions, demonstrates Tom's dedication to portraying the consequences of such events realistically (or, you know, as realistic as can be...). I'm forever looking forward to seeing what Tom does next!	2024 (2401)

Gault	I'm slowly planning on expanding Lhandon's home planet. Project FORT	This is a IC Mcguffin that I use to help justify all of the ops chaos and changes myself and Erik (Toxin Arlill) does. Feel free to use this for your own means, just let me know where you used it. Focused Operation Refit Taskforce, is an initiative Lhandon Nilsen has been working on in addition to his duties to upgrade various aging operations departments to a standard that is considered satisfactory⁠⁠. This project has been successful in refitting operations centers on various ships and installations across the fleet, improving various operations systems⁠. The initiative aims to enhance collaboration and coordination among the crew, providing a dedicated space for planning and managing various operations tasks and projects⁠. Cheydalanga	A MSNPC race that I'm working on along side a few others on the OEB.
