Returning to Starbase 118 from what is seen as a successful tour of the Breen border, the Kodiak enjoys a warm welcome. However the Dauntless class hull type has been rejected from full production in favor of the Sovereign class. Barely avoiding de-commissioning, the vessel is assigned to provide neutral security at the Klingon martial arts competition called the "Triumph" on the planet Hell's Gate. The games are interrupted by a coup against the local government, and the formation of a new house. Kodiak successfully evacuates the contestants.
