Overview

Dangerous Company is used to having to rough their conditions and during their intensive training at Starfleet Marine Academy on Mars was no different. They are not used to the luxuries that life has to offer such Soldiers but on the Starbase they have it made.

With several decks designated to the Marines only, they have seperate decks for their facilities. On one deck, living quarters. Seperate living quarters are assigned to Commissioned Offiers, whereas Non-Comissioned Officers are still only seperated by their gender. They are bunked together to make them act as a unit. It is the common belief that an Army that lives together, eats together, sleeps together will fight together.

They have Holodecks assigned for their rigorous training regimes and the drills they face every day to keep themselves in perfect fighting form. They are the peak of fitness, the definition of skill and the epitome of unity and must keep it so.

However, it would seem they'd rather spend more time in the Dungeons then in the training centre.

Holodecks

The Holodecks for the Marine Corps are no different to those used by Starfleet Officers. They use the Holodecks for rigorous training and drill sessions in adverse weather conditions and more specifically, for terrain training that could not be achieved on base otherwise.

There are extra safety regulations for Marine training in the Holodeck. In certain training programs, the safety protocols are integral to the program and cannot be deactivated. However, in programs which train perception and endurance, the safeties would be impeding on the skill and nature of the Marine. In this instance, safety protocols can only be overridden by a member of the Command Team.

There are several standard programs open to the Marines, including:

  • Jungle Survival Training
  • Desert Survival Training
  • Drop Training
  • Emergency Evacuation Training

And other fitness programs which can be accessed by any of the Officers on station. They are vigorous and comply with Marine fitness standards that must be achieved.

The Holodecks are also a source of amusement and leisure for the Marines. There are often friendly tournaments between the squads and different teams compiled by the platoon. They play a variety of Terran games including Tennis, Squash, Racquetball, Springball, Football and a range of high impact sports. There is also a range of games contributed by the variety of races in the Marines.

Phaser Range

They say the best thing for a Soldier to learn is to shoot. The Starbase 118 Marines Contingent doesn’t like to think it is sending Marines out without learning the basics of the weapon they are carrying. As such, there is a complex program to help the Marines excel at their weapons training. The range itself is made from a composite Duranium alloy, which is routinely tested for stability and structural damage; however, it can take heavy fire.

Usually, phaser practice is a range between the different types of phaser and prototype weaponry developed by the Specialists. The score is kept count by the computer and is collected by the player shooting at various red markers flying out of the darkness. The aim is to shoot as many as possible in a time limit without compromising their safety. A round in comprised of fifteen minutes worth of shooting, calculating hits and misses to an overall percentage.

Each Marine is submitted for monthly testing of accuracy and marksmanship. The levels needed for each department is different; for instance, the Infantry are required to have a basic level of weapons knowledge comprising of maintenance and proper service whereas the Sniper must know every inch of the rifle. This contributes to the standard recommended levels that a Marine should be able to achieve in their career.

  • Recommended Master Sniper Level - 90%
  • Recommended Junior Sniper Level - 80%
  • Recommended Master Infantry Level - 75%
  • Recommended Junior Infantry Level - 65%

Marine Mess Hall

It is safe to assume that every once in a while a unit needs to calm down and relax with food and drink. The Mess Hall is the place that the Marines can go to spend their leisure time with other members of their contingent. The unit it advised and encouraged to spend large amounts of time together due to emergency situations that may require an extended period of just having your comrades for company.

The large Mess Hall is divided into two sections:

  • Dining Hall
    • The Marines have their own dining facilities in which their own Chef cooks specific meals for the platoon. Their meals vary from day to day; however, their compliment is usually fruits and vegetables with a different kind of meat. They are encouraged to consume daily quantities of vitamins and minerals, which the facility must provide. In accordance with protocol, there is also a compliment of replicators situated in this area.
  • Lounge/Common Area
    • Like Starfleet Officers, some Junior Officers in the Marines don’t have the luxury of a lounge area in their quarters. The Common area is a relaxing part of the facility that allows the Marines to spend their time reading or talking with colleagues and friends. There is a multitude of games ranging from logical to the insane to suit the different tastes of the cosmopolitan crew.

To keep up with the latest news, FNS reports are broadcast daily around the Mess.
