"Gogi", as he prefers to be known, is 52 in Bardeezan years which makes him 67 in Earth years. Bardeezans have an average life expectancy of around 200 and don't reach maturity until their 50s, therefore physically and psychologically Gogi is closer to someone in their mid-twenties on Earth than someone in their early 50s.

Background

Gogi was born and raised on a farm just outside a small village and a few miles away from the nearest city. He had a happy childhood, but always knew he would someday move away from his home. He was an adventurous boy and loved exploring and camping from which he developed a love of nature. When he was old enough, he moved to the city to seek work. He lived with his uncle, aunt and cousins who had moved there when he was a child. He did odd jobs, but eventually worked on-board his oldest cousin's freighter ship mostly as a loader. Having acquired a taste for space travel, Gogi wanted more excitement and adventure than just loading and unloading cargo and transporting it to the local systems. As the Bardeezan space program is very small and mostly restricted to defence due to incursions from their Byzallian neighbours, Gogi's chances of experiencing the adventure he craved were very limited. Therefore, he saved whatever money he could and as soon as he had enough, enrolled in Starfleet Academy. He majored in Security and was near the top of his class for more physical subjects such as survival and combat training, but was generally average or lower in subjects such as engineering and psychology.

Relationships

Delan Han

Delan Han

Despite graduating from the Academy just a matter of weeks apart, Gogi and Delan Han's paths didn't cross until they were stationed together at the Embassy on Duronis II. During their time at the Embassy, Gogi and Delan's careers seemed to be taking similar paths, with both gaining promotion to Lieutenant Commander, being made Chiefs of their respective departments and eventually coming to serve as First Officer (Delan) and Second Officer (Gogi) aboard the USS Thor. As well as their career paths, Delan and Gogi often found themselves working closely together, mainly as part of away teams. One such mission culminated in Delan losing his eyesight and requiring surgery, something that Gogi still has feelings of guilt over, despite Delan's reassurances that it wasn't his fault. Gogi would often find himself socialising with Delan and his wife Abigail Miller-Talan at crew functions and the Trill was probably the person Gogi was closest to in his time at the Embassy.

Brayden Jorey

During his first posting out of Starfleet Academy, at the Embassy of Duronis II, Gogi received a warm welcome from the majority of the senior crew, but none more so than Commander Brayden Jorey. The Betazoid arranged one of his famous parties to welcome Gogi - as well as a few other new arrivals - during which, Gogi found himself scuba diving with the Betazoid in the beautiful seas surrounding Lokesh Island. During the coming months, Gogi spent a lot of time with Brayden, enjoying the flamboyant officer's company, but also learning a lot from him. He now considers Brayden to be a good friend.

Wallace Williams

Although their time at the Embassy on Duronis II did not overlap by that much, Gogi already felt a kinship with Wallace Williams. A man who shared his values and dedication to his duty, but was also approachable and light-hearted off duty. It was evident that their trust and respect was mutual when Wallace entrusted the safety of his civilian wife, Adelaide Williams, to Gogi on a mission that eventually led to a fire fight with and escape from mining colony workers who had been mutated by a virus, turning them into bloodthirsty zombie-like creatures. Gogi enjoyed socialising with Wallace and Adelaide and was looking forward to continuing to do so, when duty called and whisked him off on his next adventure as First Officer of the USS Apollo-A. He hopes to one day work with his friend again.

Starfleet Career

Embassy of Duronis II/USS Thor

Kjenta II

After graduating Starfleet Academy, Gogi was assigned as a Security Officer at the Embassy of Duronis II. During his very first mission to the oppressive and doomed planet of Kjenta II, Gogi got an early taste of the precarious balancing act Starfleet officers have to perform between their sense of duty and their sense of morality, when he encountered and eventually befriended a native child. Gogi was one of a number of officers who believed that since the Prime Directive had already been breached by the ill-fated USS Columbia and its crew, that Starfleet were within their rights to rescue the natives and re-home them. On this occasion, he and his fellow officers were able to argue their case successfully and win the day, but this would not be the last time the Bardeezan would find himself in a moral dilemma.

Wraith

While enjoying some downtime on shore leave in Lokesh City, Gogi was surprised to see the hulking form of Marine Major Hannibal Parker enter the bar he was in. Even more peculiarly, the Major made his way to a table where a shabbily dressed man, who was slumped over his drink, was sitting. Unsure of whether Parker had noticed his presence, Gogi waited and watched the scene unfold, until the man suddenly attacked the Major. As the man tried to make his escape, Gogi blocked his way, at which time the man revealed himself to be Captain Tyr Waltas. Regardless of who the man said he was, Gogi wasn't going to allow him to attack a fellow officer and get away with it. A fight ensued during which Gogi suffered a broken nose and dislocated shoulder, however, between himself and Parker, they were able to bring Waltas down.

Unbeknownst to Gogi, Waltas managed to escape Fortress Parker and went on to commandeer the USS Thunder-A taking Rear Admiral Toni Turner with him in the process. Eventually, it became clear that Waltas was on a revenge mission, in search of his ex-wife Eden Redstone, which led to the crew of the USS Thor, including Gogi, chasing after the pair.

When they eventually caught up, the Thunder was already engaged in a battle with a Scimitar-class Romulan vessel known as the Wraith. Several teams were beamed over to the Wraith when it became clear that Waltas and Turner had taken the fight to the vessel's bridge. As a Security Officer, Gogi co-led a team with Science Officer Delan Han, tasked with disabling the Wraith's main weapon, however, during a fire fight with some of the Romulan crew, an explosion severely injured Han's face, leaving him blinded. With the Trill insisting he was able to continue, Gogi became his eyes and between them, they were able to accomplish their mission.

Invasion

With all three of Til'ahn's Starfleet ships off chasing Eden Redstone (The Thunder-A, the Thor and the USS Bronwyn), the Romulan Empire seized their opportunity and launched an invasion of the Laudean homeworld. However, with the aid of Romulan Republic forces, the three Starfleet vessels were able to return quicker than expected to defend Til'ahn. With forces split between ships and ground troops, Gogi elected to stay on board the Thor and man the Tactical position in the absence of Major Parker, a decision that led to another difficult moment for the Bardeezan. With the Empire's forces all but beaten, the lead Romulan ship sped toward Til'ahn in a last ditch suicide run. With no other options available, the Thor as well as the other allied ships in the vicinity, concentrated their fire power on the enemy vessel and blew it to smithereens, minimising the chance of debris falling onto populated areas below. Despite the fact that they had saved thousands, if not millions of lives by doing this, the incident gave Gogi pause as he reflected on the futility of war and the bizarre attitudes of those who would rather die and take their crew with them, than surrender when beaten.

USS Apollo-A

Project Full Circle

Having achieved much in his relatively short time at the Embassy, Gogi was given a choice to remain, or to be part of the re-launching of the Odyssey class ship the USS Apollo-A as First Officer. Though the increase in rank certainly helped, Gogi took the posting especially because the Apollo represented everything he had joined Starfleet for. The Apollo was to be assigned to the Delta Quadrant in a ten year mission of exploration. The chance to explore the mostly uncharted Delta Quadrant and potentially encounter new forms of life and new civilizations, was too good an offer to turn down. So, with a degree of both sadness and excitement, the Bardeezan bid farewell to his friends on Til'ahn and set off on his next adventure.

After being welcomed aboard by their new Commanding Officer, Rear Admiral Renos, the crew's first obligation was to observe the ceremonial handing over of the ship. The Apollo's refit had been overseen by the Zakdorn, in particular, the incumbent Stratigo, Bokzadema Bokzadeshti. Despite some slight historical tension between the Zakdorn and Starfleet, the hand over went without a hitch and the Apollo was soon on its way to the Delta Quadrant.

Baptism of Fire

Almost immediately after entering the Delta Quadrant, the Apollo received a distress call from what was to be their first port of call - New Talax. With increasing urgency, the Apollo sped toward the Talaxian outpost to find it under attack by Hierarchy forces. Admiral Renos then took the decision to split the Apollo from it's escort ship, the Artemis, fearing a simultaneous attack on the near by Outpost Unity. Under Gogi's command, the Artemis arrived at the Dyson Sphere to be greeted by two more Hierarchy ships, confirming Renos' fears. After a fairly short battle, in which the Artemis was able to hold its own despite being outnumbered, the enemy ships suddenly turned and fled, leading the crew of the Artemis to believe the Hierarchy central command had issued new orders. Though they had managed to chase the Hierarchy off at both New Talax and Outpost Unity, the damage to both colonies was extensive and the loss of life great.

First Contact

After beginning their mission of exploration in earnest, the Apollo were soon confronted with the mysterious disappearance of their Commanding Officer - Rear Admiral Renos. Having had no contact with any other ships, outposts or planets in the past couple of weeks and with a physical search of the ship turning up nothing but more questions, Gogi was left with no choice but to assume command in his capacity of First Officer and attempt to co-ordinate a rescue - despite not knowing the Admiral's whereabouts. After the disappearance of a second crew member - Senior Chief Petty Officer Jack Wellbelove, it became clear that the officers had been abducted through some kind of subspace rift. With every available officer either working on a way to reopen the rift, or evacuating the Main Shuttlebay after another rift had caused an explosion there, a strange appearance on the Bridge suddenly provided the final piece of the puzzle.

An unknown creature, quadrupedal and unlike anything on record, had materialised and was attempting to communicate. The creature's speech however, was something more akin to whale song, but after some modification of the Universal Translator, Gogi was eventually able to speak with their visitor.

The creature was from a subspace species who called themselves the Oophyd and had taken Admiral Renos and Chief Wellbelove to study humanoid life. Their intentions, though misguided, were peaceful and after some negotiation, Renos and Wellbelove were returned unharmed, though Renos was in some strange kind of state of hibernation which would require study and supervision from the Apollo's medical and science departments.

Possessions

Gogi is not a sentimental person when it comes to possessions, but there are two things he brought with him from Bardeez which he couldn't imagine being without. One is his Bardeezan beeswax which he uses to help tame his mane of hair and beard, the second is his curved and serrated Bardeezan-style Bowie knife, given to him by his father. He also has a portrait hanging in his quarters at the Embassy which he brought with him from Earth, it is of 20th Century British explorer Captain Lawrence Oates and is titled 'A Very Gallant Gentleman' by John Charles Dollman.
