Raj in monochrome
  • Full Name: Raj Blueheart
  • Race: Terran, Human
  • Date of Birth: 235207.28
  • Place of Birth: Malaysia, Earth
  • Age: 49
  • Gender: Male
  • Telepathic status: Not telepathic, though.. following an autologous splenic transplant, the new spleen has, on occasion, been an accurate harbinger of impending doom by throbbing and aching rhythmically, much to Raj's chagrin.

Appearance

Raj Blueheart
Raj Blueheart
  • Height: 1.72m
  • Weight: 65kg
  • Hair Color: Black
  • Length of Hair: Short to crewcut
  • Eye Color: Brown
  • Skin Tone: Fair
  • Birthmarks, Scars: Raj has an oval black birthmark over his left deltoid, and a barely-visible splenectomy scar over his left upper abdomen
  • Build: Used to be slim (at one time toned, even), but with advancing age, Raj has noticed the early signs of pesky lovehandles appearing
  • Face: Round-ish
  • Eyes: Large and inquisitive, much like a child's, and droopy at times, with thick eyebrows
  • Mouth: Small-ish with thin, peach-colored lips. Extremely kissable lips, he has been told.
  • Arms: Toned, never too muscular
  • Legs: Toned as well, never too muscular
  • Carriage: Courteous, soft-spoken, humble.. but can be firm and stern where appropriate. Tends to walk with a very recognizable gait - hard to describe except that it's 'cat-like'
  • Poses (Hands/Gestures, Feet/Legs, Torso/Head): Tends to slouch at the table, uses his hands quite a bit when vocalizing and because of an innate pessimistic nature, tends to cross his arms across his chest rather often, especially when defensive.
  • Taste in Clothing (when off duty): When off-duty, Raj is most often in a pair of worn-out jeans and in his favorite hoodie. He tends to opt for casual clothes that are discreet. But when it comes to social events like parties, Raj does a complete one-eighty and leans towards the flamboyant, over-the-top and glam.
  • Shoes: Starfleet-issue boots, suede on occasion
  • Voice: Tends to get rather high-pitched when excited and/or terrified, otherwise normal and even-toned
  • Handedness: Ambidextrous; right-handed for penmanship; left-handed for most other manual work

Manner

A near-perfect imitation of Pablo Picasso's 'The Weeping Woman', hung on one wall of the main room, a gift from Emerson Ravenscroft to Blueheart
  • Blueheart's Quarters: filled with vintage pottery and artwork, courtesy of Emerson Ravenscroft
  • Favorite Room: the bedroom, to catch up on sleep and to cuddle with Emerson
  • Habits: often bites his lips when nervous or agitated, frowns while arching an eyebrow
  • Mannerisms: polite, soft-spoken and approachable.. but can get quite moody, edgy and reserved in the blink of an eye
  • Religion/Spiritual Devotion: neo-Greek pantheism
  • Hobbies and Pastimes: reading, collecting printed books, late 20th-century Earth music, vintage Earth sci-fi television shows and movies, Vulcan poetry
  • Likes: sleeping in, summer rain, ocean breeze, cats, chocolate ice-cream, spicy food, Emerson
  • Dislikes: superficial and dishonest individuals, high humidity, cruelty to animals, sushi
  • Favorite Color: Tyrian purple - it has always had a calming effect on Raj
  • Favorite Scent: Jasmine
  • Favorite Flower: Sunflower
  • Favorite Cuisine: Earth Mediterranean and Bajoran. Raj can't cook to save his own life, but luckily Emerson is a naturally gifted cook
  • Favorite Alcoholic Drink: South American merlot and cabernet-sauvignon, Andorian ale
  • Favorite Caffeinated Beverage: Raktajino
  • Favorite Music Genre: 1980s Earth pop-rock and big-hair bands, Klingon opera
  • Favorite Animal: Felis catus
  • Words/Phrases used Frequently: "Just that.. ", "What the-- ?", "Seriously?"
  • Earliest Memory: rescuing a kitten that had fallen into a ditch while on his way back from school
  • Most Influential Person: Madonna, Earth's one-time Queen of Pop - daring to be different, bold, assertive and self-confident
  • Ambitions and Goals: long-term - to encourage youths to enroll in Starfleet, someday perhaps to captain a starship of their own; short-term - to become a loving father/brother/mentor to his new crew aboard the USS Atlantis
  • Achievements in Life: see Awards & Commendations below
  • Disappointments in Life: "Disappointments are necessary for growth and wisdom." One of Raj's biggest disappointments in life is his failure to detect the Morrin virus infection in Addyson Martin's parents, which eventually led to their deaths.
  • Temperament: tends to be a tad too serious at times, even melancholic on rare occasions, then hilarious and euphoric the next - what can only be described as wildly bipolar in personality
  • Mental problems (complexes and phobias): bouts of self-doubt and low self-esteem, absolutely terrified of roaches, spiders and other creepy-crawlies with long hairy limbs/appendages
  • Physical Limitations: Being neither of athletic build nor athletic, Raj tends to shy away from physical sports, especially group contact sports like soccer or rugby. Though he is known to vent out his frustrations fencing with 15th-century French cavaliers in the holodeck.
  • Greatest Strength: Loyalty
  • Greatest Weakness: Self-doubt

Personal History

  • 235207.28: Raj Blueheart was born in Malaysia, Earth, where his father was stationed while awaiting transfer to the company's new headquarters on Luna.
  • 2352 - 2362: Raj becomes a voracious reader even from a very young age. He attended kindergarten in 2358, then primary school from 2359 to 2362 in Malaysia before relocating to Luna. His childhood, apart from reading and watching vintage Earth science fiction cartoons, was a dark and sad one. His father was physically abusive towards him, his younger sister and mother. Until today, Raj believes his father acted that way out of pressure at work, when the risk of 'forced early retirement'was high. What pained him the most was not the beatings or lashings or verbal abuse from his father, but rather the denial of his mother that it was wrong.
  • 2362 - 2371: Late primary school to completion of secondary school on Luna were years filled with mixed emotions for young Raj. Never one to fancy sports, he was often bullied by the jocks, and teased by fellow classmates whenever he emerged top of his class in tests. While the teasing only provided him with an impetus to study harder and aim high, the bullying scarred him for life. It left him with a low self-esteem and an aversion to sports and games.
  • 2372 - 2377: Medical school was a breeze for him, but only academically. Socially, he was an outcast, but not by choice. He was in the midst of discovering his sexuality and this proved to be a curse in a close-knit, conservative community in which he lived. It was also a troubling time when he was ostracized for championing equality for all. Needless to say, the small Earth community on Luna in those days was not yet prepared for egalitarianism. This further squashed Raj's self-esteem and psyche, making him reserved and aloof. On the other hand, he dug deeper into the solace his books and hobbies provided.
  • 2377 - 2382: Dr Raj Blueheart, MD, works as a physician employed by the Earth government. During this time, he worked in various government-run hospitals on Earth as well as many volunteer stints in war-torn areas of the Sol system. It was during a volunteer mission to a refugee colony on Mars in 2382, that Raj meets Dr Dylan Matthews, whom he forges a personal relationship with. Unfortunately, there are misunderstandings on both sides. Misunderstandings that would eventually lead to a build-up of paranoia, jealousy and doubt. Ultimately, the relationship is severed, which leads Raj to almost end his life.
  • 2382 - 2386: Escaping his painful past, Raj enlists in Starfleet, and after 4 years, graduates on 238601.31, as is assigned to the USS Discovery-B as Medical Officer.

Awards & Commendations

For award descriptions, see: Awards and Service Ribbons
Graphics Award/Ribbon Stardate Posting Description
Awards General SheathedSword 2011.jpg Sheathed Sword 2388 USS Discovery-B Presented to those to decide to inflict injury on their character, and then dive into the resulting emotions and choices in a realistic manner. The name comes from line in a Robert Jordan book where a warrior must be prepared to "Sheath the Sword" in his own body, i.e. to take a grievous wound to achieve your goal, in this case more realistic simming as opposed to an actual goal of the character like the established award.
Awards General Tosma1 2011.jpg TOSMA 2388 USS Discovery-B This award is given to members who show great dedication in their behavior, and simming abilities. A candidate for TOSMA I regularly contributes good, solid ideas to the plot and character development. They also take the time to edit and proof-read their sims to ensure quality in their writing.
Awards DutyPost ValiantHeartAward 2011.jpg Order of the Valiant Heart 2388 USS Discovery-B This award is given to those ship's Counselor who have shown great skill in protecting the mental health of their crewmates, clearly demonstrating superior ability to care, assist, and comfort those in need. They have gone above and beyond the call of duty in assisting their crewmates with their problems, and in preventing future problems from occurring.
Awards General SilverPalm 2011.jpg Silver Palm 2388 USS Discovery-B Awarded to a simmer who has consistently boosted the morale of his/her crew. The recipient will be known to be able to add that spark to a plot whenever it may be lagging, or may be able to consistently bring enjoyment or a bit of humour to the sim, whilst keeping such sims relevant and realistic.
Awards General 3Year 2011.jpg 3-Year Member 2389 USS Discovery-C For those who have been members continuously for three years.
Awards General Neelix 2011.jpg Neelix Award 2390 USS Discovery-C For extra, out of character, simming devotion. This includes, helping fellow officers who are in need of simming aid, running OOC sims, upkeep of wiki pages, etc.

Timeline

A steampunk holoprogram
  • 2386: Addyson Martin, a ten-year-old comatose girl, is brought on board the Discovery-B. She is a victim of Morris virus infection which killed her parents - close friends of Raj. Raj is distraught with guilt for failing to diagnose the early phases of the insidious infection in her parents but manages to stave off the infection in young Addie. Unfortunately, though her body survives, her mind is rendered vegetative. Raj takes it upon himself to care for the orphaned girl on the Discovery. Miraculously, while on shore leave at Ba'ku, the restorative powers of the planet awaken Addie from her coma. The cheerful and bright young girl brings a burst of much needed sunshine in Raj's life.
  • 2388: It was during his tenure on board the Discovery that Raj meets the then Dachlyd Chief Engineer, LtCmdr Rogg "Steve" d'Squamos, with whom he agrees to hatch three eggs with. Steve and Raj become co-parents to Essk, Vayu and Dryad.
  • 2388: On a mission to the Reman homeworld, the crew is attacked by the Reman vampires. Addie is bitten and is transformed into the Undead. It was both a life-changing event in Raj's life, as well as being the single most terrifying incident he has ever encountered. Though cured of the infection that causes vampirism in its victims, Addie retains the collective memories of an entire Reman vampire race, forever changing her. She becomes a manipulative, dark, cunning, sharp and sexual being, trapped in a child's body. She is shunned by most of the crew as a freak, while she herself shuns Raj, her former guardian, whom she regards as weak, naive, emotional and innocent - traits that would only lead to his destruction.
  • 2388: One of Raj's closest friends on the Discovery, LtCmdr Eric Lundrigan, leaves the ship abruptly and rather mysteriously. This not only has a profound affect on Raj but on LtCmdr John Valdivia as well, his other close buddy. It is a trying time for Raj as he loses one of his closest confidants on board.
  • 2389: On one of many stops at DS285, his sister Sheila Blueheart Solis, introduces him to the station's resident xenolinguist, Emerson D'Arcy Ravenscroft. Following numerous spaced-out meetings and committed correspondence, the pair is ready to embark on a new relationship with each other.
Another steampunk holoadventure
  • 2389: At a stop at DS285, Addie leaves the Discovery after Raj officially and emotionally releases her from his charge. It is a sad, sad day for Raj, although at the same time, a strangely liberating one.
  • 2390: LtCmdr John Valdivia leaves the Discovery to pursue a career in Science. The departure of the last remaining close friend of Raj both saddens and devastates him, but it also toughens his heart up by leaps and bounds.
  • 239009.30: Following a skirmish while on an away mission to Kjenta II, Raj's spleen is ruptured by a phaser blast and is removed (after much drama and fanfare too). He is then transplanted with an autologous spleen, and strangely, suffers a telltale dull ache in his left flank (where the transplanted spleen resides) whenever something bad is about to happen. Kind of like his spleen being a harbinger of doom.
  • 239011.19 - 239101.31: The final mission and last voyages of the USS Discovery-C. The crew is sent by Admiral Samuelson to apprehend former captains Hebron and Nekkar who have stolen the USS Constitution in order to unleash the deadly, zombie-producing Daris virus onto Ba'ku and then the world. Dark forces within SF had hoped to bury the secret of biological warfare research on Daris II by destroying all those involved in the initial Daris mission. When this secret is revealed, Captain Waltas is forced to retire and the USS Discovery decommissioned. Raj is shaken by this revelation. The man who had been his captain, his friend, his father figure, was leaving everything behind without a fight and retiring to Ba'ku. The ship where he had first served fresh out of the Academy, was to be relegated to an inactive dockyard! Heart broken and spirit squashed, Raj leaves his beloved Captain Waltas behind on Ba'ku as he resumes command of the Discovery to bring her home to DS-285 - one last time.
  • 239102.01: Commander Raj Blueheart is assigned as the Commanding Officer of the USS Atlantis. For Raj, this is the most important event of his life thus far.
