Detailed Descriptions

Character History

Eyas was raised on the planet Pythro V in a close-knit but disciplined military family. Eyas was lonely as he was an only child and found making friends difficult as his father was an officer in the Pythronic Defence Force which necessitated frequent moving of the family home when his father received new commissions. Eyas changed school at least 10 times.

Eyas grew into a typical young Pythron male: tall, broad with long wavy blond hair (almost like a lion's mane to human eyes). He received his ceremonial armour at the age of 18 (as with Pythronic custom) which he wears proudly over the chest area alongside his Star Fleet uniform badge on ceremonial occasions.

His parents approved of his joining Star Fleet, as his father, General Clovis Wulfantine, felt that trust and co-operation between Pythro and its Federation allies is for the greater good. Although technically an ally of the Federation, Pythro V maintains its own armed forces after it was attacked by an unknown alien invasion decades before and the Federation was too late to stop great loss of life.

Eyas was assigned to the USS Independence-A, initially as an Ensign in Security. He was soon promoted to Lieutenant and made Chief of Security, with a glittering career ahead of him. However, after a series of unfortunate events (only referred to as the ‘Hologate Affair’ by Eyas) aboard the late Independence-A, and very briefly the USS Tiger-A after that, he has lost enthusiasm for climbing the career ladder in Star Fleet, and now only looks to serve his colleagues to the best of his abilities but nothing more.

Falsely implicated in his father's assassination, Eyas is banned from ever returning to his homeworld of Pythro V on pain of death. Nevertheless, he does one day intend to return and clear his name. He also wants to rescue his mother, Solara, kept under house arrest by a rival political faction since her husband's murder.

On his travels he has made some good friends, but one who has followed him across the Galaxy is Lieutenant JG Rick Rawden. A talented Star Fleet engineer and friend of Wulfantine, acting like the kid brother that Eyas' never had. They are both now aboard the USS Mercury.

Eyas arrived on the Mercury during the outbreak of a virulent plague that nearly cost the lives of all the crew, but fortunately he was able to assist the medical team in finding a cure using his own blood's immunity to the pathogen as a template vaccine.

Temperament: Jovial, avuncular and slightly eccentric, Eyas is usually calm and doesn't panic when in danger. He is always eager to please his superiors and fiercely loyal to his family, friends and colleagues. He sometimes becomes frustrated if things he believes are wrong are not corrected. His greatest fears usually come from unseen dangers. Eyas would rather face twenty armed opponents in full view in front of him, than one hiding in the shadows.
Mental problems (complexes and phobias): Mild Claustrophobia.
Physical Limitations: Due to the injuries he sustained during 'Hologate', Eyas now has artifical lungs created using experimental Borg nanites donated by Lt.Cmdr Danny Wilde. The lungs are in fact biosynthetic organs that allow direct respiration from a liquid medium. This 'side-effect' means that Eyas can breath under water like a fish. However, the nanites also make his blood highly toxic to anyone else who comes into contact with it. Otherwise, Eyas is strong and athletic, so his main limitation is fitting into jefferies tubes or other narrow spaces.

There I was trawling around the internet, when a friend recommended ‘play by email SIMs’. I had heard of role playing games, but was not familiar with the concept of playing over the internet and being allowed creative freedom to write adventures to boot. It was through him that I discovered the UFOP: Starbase118 Star Trek role playing site.

The great thing about UFOP:SB118 is that it is a fantastic mix of creative writing, game-play and even out of character socialising. I am an aspiring author and being amongst like-minded individuals who’s creative energy is infectious I have found that my own writing has improved. I also enjoy the ‘make your own’ adventure aspect of play-by-email-sims where all the authors write their own part of the adventure for their chosen characters – and out of their collective imaginations, a strong narrative emerges. The authors on each ship or base tackle their respective missions, and then have some time ‘on shore leave’ where further character development can occur. It is a fascinating process to read and also be a part of.

As if all this wasn’t enough to whet one’s appetite, but there are also a large number of ‘out of character’ events and activities you can get involved in, whether it be meeting your crewmates on chat groups or on discussion forums, helping expand the groups very own Wiki site; or just in making new friends with similar interests in writing, science-fiction, space technology or a shared love of being creative.

The SIMming environment is also good for one’s self-discipline. I am forever suffering writer’s block, but with new sims coming in from your crewmates, with ‘tags’ left for your characters to answer, you are gently compelled to put fingers to keyboard and let your imagination flow. With so many great writers around you, you can’t help but be inspired to explore new horizons, to invent new life forms and new civilizations,. To boldly SIM where no one has SIMmed before!
