Daruneis was born on Romulan colony world where her people found a refuge running away from Borg. They lived there well accepted by Romulans for centuries, but the loss of their home world and a lot of refugees changed that in a blink of an eye and they were forced to leave their homes and run from Romulan space. The only place they could run to was Federation space.

Daruneis was, with her 140 year age, still only a teenager for her species. She had lot of friends, both Romulan and El-Aurian and losing everything, her home, friends and most of belongings was a huge shock for her. Daruneis fell silent and it lead to the need for counseling. After a few years of adaptation to a new home, she applied to Starfleet Academy. She was not well adjusted to a new life and the Academy helped her in finding new friends and helped to open up again. Still, she is still talking very little and often will hide in the shadows and keep in the corner, all alone. Daruneis is still very shy and has some problems adjusting to a new rules and differences from the Romulan environment she grew up in.
