The Venthis are the native population of the planet Venthis, located in the Almrada cluster of the Alpha Isles. They are a newly warp-capable species, which the Federation made first contact with in 2397 via the USS Arkipov. Second contact was made by the USS Arrow under the command of Captain Randal Shayne.

The Venthis people are emerging from a centuries-long war that has devastated their population and planet, only recently saved by something much of the population has called "The Miracle." The planet has undergone radical reconstruction, reduction in pollution, and unification in the period since the ceasefire brought on by this event. A new planetary government, the Venthis Coalition has taken up governing the planet and its people.

Recently unified, there's no apparent demonym for the inhabitants of the planet Venthis - some examples variants include Venthi, Venthian, and Venthisian.

Homeworld

The Venthisian people call Venthis their home. Rather resource-poor to begin with, after centuries of conflict the planet has few natural resources in abundance. Many cities have been bombed out of existence, and the lower altitude orbits are littered with orbital debris.

History

Much of Venthis history has been lost due to centuries-long war. Even the very reason for the start of the war itself has been lost. Only recent history seems to be recorded, starting with the ceasefire and a quickly-arranged peace brought about as a result of a newfound abundance in the aftermath of "The Miracle." What early history that still exists seems to be primarily passed down orally along matrilineal lines. Stories revolve around the natural beauty and biodiversity of old Venthis.

Government

The principle government is the Venthis Coalition, which has multiple sub-councils dedicated to various concerns of the planet. There are still subdivisions of the old nation-states, principally by general region. There's special attention to make sure there's equal representation from the northern, eastern, western, and southern regions both culturally and politically to maintain stability. The Venthis government briefly made a bid to join Starfleet, but retracted their bid after discovering the harmful effects of their method of power generation - both environmentally and societal.

Known Councils:

  • Executive Council
  • Diplomatic Council
  • Economic Council

While the planetary government is the only one recognized, there are fringe elements that are dissatisfied with the new peace and power structure that comes with it. Particularly in the lowland Southern states, notably the abandoned city of Lowka, there's still resistance elements that have refused to take part of the new government.

Description

The Venthians are entirely humanoid and bipedal in appearance, like Humans themselves or Betazoids.

The have a range of skin tone colors similar to Humans. Their hair and eye color pigments are similar in range and kind to Humans.

They possess no superior strength or mental prowess to Humans.

Physiology

Psychology

The people of Venthis are apparently extraordinarily resilient to all sorts of mental trauma, having successfully endured a civilization built on war for many generations. There are limits, with several veterans demonstrating a wide variety of mental illnesses, the rigorous military training from a young age and early exposure seems to have inoculated large portions of the population from the worst effects of lifelong war. With the pressures of war, Venthians have, on average, been shaped into a highly intelligent, strategic people with a keen diplomatic intuition even as relative newcomers to the galactic stage.

Religion

No religious texts or customs have been observed by the USS Arkhipov or the USS Arrow.

Mythology

Society

The Venthis population leans extremely young, and somewhat female. With men fighting and dying in the wars from a very young age, a man over the age of thirty is considered an elder in Venthisian society. Now that the fighting is done, Venthis is striving to create a new identity for itself. Music, art, culture, and so much more are uncertain now that the vast majority of resources are no longer being spent on warring. One thing is certain: it will be dominated by the tastes of the young and energetic, who are hopeful for a brand new future for the first time in generations.

Culture

Ambassador Dran lamented to Captain Shayne that most of Venthian culture has been lost or forgotten since the war. After the fighting stopped, people in the countryside were keen to start producing their own wine and cheese, as well as pottery and fabrics in an attempt to revamp their culture. Simultaneously, with vast new industries in technology to fill, Venthis is rapidly urbanizing - especially in the the Northern and Western states.

There is limited art on Venthis - and most of what there is was gathered by the Four States and put on display in a 'Peace Room' - the central foyer of the new Ministry building. Each wall was adorned with the regional art of either the Northern, Western, Eastern or Southern State.

Customs

Technology

Venthis technology has made massive leaps in just a few short years. Warp drive, replicators, basic transporters, and most impressively a massively powerful energy grid have all come about in recent years. Their technology seems to be growing by leaps and bounds every day. Areas where Venthis technology seems to lag is in biology and medicine, with many veterans still suffering from conditions that are treatable in the Federation. However, they seem to have the technology to capture and neutralize a variety of atmospheric and soil pollutants that created the most problems during the war, which have restored their ability to conduct agriculture.

During it's second contact mission, Arrow discovered that the so-called "Miracle" was in fact the result of successful harnessing of the Omega Molecule for power generation. Once stabilized, study of the molecule enabled the quick discovery and development of a large array of technologies, particularly those that made use of subspace. Upon the discovery of brewing problems with the power generation system, the rigid requirements of the Omega Protocol left Arrow with few options but to offer replacing the Omega molecule with Federation-manufactured power generation equipment. Time will tell what this technological intervention will do to the people of Venthis.

Military

Each State was responsible for its own military and training during the war which raged on Venthis for nearly two hundred years. After "The Miracle", the forces unilaterally disarmed and entered an armistice. The whole society unified under a new central government, and only the most hardened and suitable veterans were recruited for the Venthis Guard - the new central military responsible for keeping the peace. Members from each State were permitted entry to the Guard.

Many wounded veterans were taken into the care of the medical facility, but it was revealed on the Arrow that some medical centers were performing illegal and immoral practices on veterans, especially those with memory or psychological problems, whereby they wouldn't remember the procedures.
