Daruneis was born on Romulan colony world Nanclus where eir people found a refuge running away from Borg. They lived there well accepted by Romulans for centuries, but the loss of Romulan home world and a lot of refugees changed that in a blink of an eye and Daruneis and members of eir family were forced to leave their homes and run from Romulan space. The only way they could run to was Federation space.

Daruneis was, with eir 140 years of age, still only a teenager for eir species. Ey had a lot of friends, both Romulan and El-Aurian and losing everything; eir home, eir friends and most of belongings was a huge shock for em. Daruneis fell silent and it lead to the need for counseling. After a few years of adaptation to a new home, ey applied to Starfleet Academy. Ey was not well adjusted to a new life and the Academy helped eir in finding new friends and helped em to open up again. Still, ey is still talking very little and often will hide in the shadows and keep in the corner, all alone. Daruneis is still very shy and has some problems adjusting to a new rules and differences from the Romulan environment ey grew up in.
