History

They have had a fairly stable history with no major wars or disasters. A unified people almost from the start they developed slowly but surely. The mild weather and good growing conditions resulted in a steady population growth. It has only been in recent years that they learned that their planet was endangered by the severe cooling of the planet's molten core. Atrea IV recently underwent a ferroplasmic infusion to re-liquefy its solidifying core, which was causing massive seismic, magnetic, and gravitational disruptions. The USS Enterprise-D was able to stop the problem for a couple generations.

Government

They have a unified government that is elected by the people.

Description

Atreans are characterised by skin involutions in the temporal region of the cranium that fuse with enlarged ears. Other than that they appear to be basically human in appearance. While they all tend to have a pale skin tone, hair and eye color does vary greatly. The men have short hair and the women tend to grow it down past their shoulders. Most citizens tend to be fairly healthy with few cases of obesity. On the average they tend to be 5'5" to 6'1" altho some may be shorter and a rare few taller.

The males usually wear a single shirt/jacket over a pair of pants. These will be a pale color, usually earth tone or cream in nature. The females wear slightly brighter shades and a wider mix of garments.

Physiology

While they may appear to be human they are completely different when it comes to their physiology. This is very evident with only a basic examination of their medical data. They have a 5 valved heart that pumps a pale yellowish plasma rich in oxygen. Their hearing is excellent with a greater range and distance perception than most species.

Psychology

As a species they tend to have very few cases of mental instablility except among the very old.

Religion

They have developed a fairly passive spiritual belief in reincarnation and the slow evolution of the spirit. This belief while a strong part of their culture tends to be unspoken and requires few ceremonies. One of the few is the grand send off, a extremely structured and detailed funeral that is considered a private affair attended only by family and friends.

Society

They are a close knit society with small communites working together for the betterment of the entire community. In large cities this is still evident in the various districts and gated communities that form each cities residential areas.

Culture

Atrean culture is one based on electronic entertainment.

Customs

While they do have a number of unique customs they do not affect outsiders or visitors to their world. They tend to only be used among themselves and even then it is not really that evident.

Technology

While not one of the most advanced technologicaly species within the Federation they do excel at entertainment technology. Almost a quarter of every holodeck in use in the Federation was built by them. They also create a wide range of holo-programs includeing some of the most user friendly create your own programs available.

Economy

They have a very strong and highly developed industrial economy. They are completely independant and export a large amount of goods and foods. They tend to import raw materials and a few luxury goods that they either can not create themselves or that is in short supply.

Military

They have never had any formal military but those members of their species that have joined Starfleet have almost exclusively become members of the fleet and avoided the marines almost completely.

Angosian

Civilized humanoids of Angosia III, non-violent by nature, are advanced in the development of the mind and intellect and typically are thoughtful and intelligent. Due to their pacifism in matters of fighting, they used mind control and biochemicals to create the ultimate fighting soldiers to win their Tarsian War, which has subsequently passed. These veterans were treated to intense psychological conditioning and exotic biochemical alterations to make them nearly invincible. Peacetime, however, found the Angosians unable (or unwilling) to take the time to reverse the effects of these alterations. After several incidents involving these violent soldiers, the fearful Angosians voted to banish the soldiers to a penal colony on Lunar V, and so these veterans were imprisoned on an uninhabitable moon to separate them from the populace. Shortly before Stardate 43489.2, however, escapees broke free to take over the capital city, demanding they receive help to be able to return to their homes. The veterans don't attack unless provoked, but they are programmed to survive.

MA The Angosians are a humanoid race originating from the planet Angosia III. Outwardly indistinguishable from Humans, Angosians eschewed violence, preferring to focus on intellectual development.

In the mid-24th century, the Angosians were involved in a protracted conflict called the Tarsian War. Being inherently non-violent, the Angosian authorities were forced to subject their soldiers to genetic engineering and chemical manipulation in order to successfully end the conflict. However, it was discovered that the process was irreversible, and when the war ended, the "super soldiers" were unable to function within or co-exist alongside the normal population of Angosian society, and as such were confined indefinitely to a penal settlement on an Angosian moon, Lunar V, and considered to be outcasts and criminals.

In 2366, the Angosians petitioned to join the Federation. The USS Enterprise-D visited Angosia III to follow up the petition. However, the occasion was interrupted by the escape of the soldier Roga Danar who was pursued by the Enterprise crew at Angosia III's request. Unfortunately for the planet, while the crew was successful capturing him, they then learned from him of the gross systemic sentient rights violation being committed.

While Captain Jean-Luc Picard found that the Angosian government refused to discuss the concern, Danar escaped and proceeded to start a rebellion with his fellows. In the face of the planet's unacceptable policies and the resultant civil upheaval caused by them, the application was put on hold for the immediate future. (TNG: "The Hunted")
