Physiology
The Yalosians are a spacefaring civilization. They breathe a corrosive mixture of 60% nitrogen, 10% benzene, and 30% hydrogen fluoride. They also can't perceive the red-orange part of the visual spectrum.

Deep Space 9 hosted the Yalosian ambassador in 2371. Major Kira Nerys was in charge of preparing the quarters for the ambassador. (DS9: "Improbable Cause")
As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

A species which breathes an incredibly acidic atmosphere and is unable to see red or orange in the visible spectrum. The visit by an ambassador of this species to Deep Space Nine caused major refurbishing of his guest quarters, since his atmosphere dissolves the room carpet and it had to be replaced.

The Yridians were a warp capable race from the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. They were regarded as information merchants and smugglers and were generally considered devious and untrustworthy. (TNG: "The Chase"; DS9: "Facets")

Physiology Edit
Yerdrin Lek, a Yridian male in 2165
Added by GvsualanYridians were humanoids who were usually bald, others had black or brown curly hair. They had wrinkled skin. They also had large rodent-like pointy ears but small eyes and noses. All Yridians had an indented ridge running across the full length of their heads and extending down their nose. Most Yridians had no thumbs, and possessed only four fingers on each hand.

The actors wore a glove, that covered their index finger and thumb, making it appear to be one large finger. These four-fingered hands can be seen in close-up in "Birthright, Part I", "Firstborn", "A Simple Investigation", and "Business as Usual". There are two exceptions, one is Ashrock, the other is Yranac, but they have other small changes such as hair and a darker complexion. They may be a sub-species of Yridian.
Society
History and politics Edit
Ashrock, holding one of the Rings of Paltriss
Added by CaptainmikeIt was not known if the Yridians had a central government. The Yridians encountered by the Federation appeared to be loosely aligned and concerned with their own interests, often serving as hired agents for other races and operating as groups or individuals. (TNG: "The Chase") They were often unwilling to reveal information they collect without payment. Despite their reputation, the Yridians were often seen on space stations and planets within Federation space. (TNG: "Birthright, Part I", "Gambit, Part I"; VOY: "Non Sequitur") However, the shady dealings of some Yridians earned them arrest warrants issued by governments such as the Klingon Empire (TNG: "Gambit, Part I") and their trading goods were often confiscated. (DS9: "Facets")

In an alternate timeline the first Human encounter with this race took place during the 2160s when explorers found notes about the Yridians in the Vulcan database. (ENT: "Twilight")

At some point before the 2360s, the Federation believed that the Yridian race went extinct. This disappearance was so total that it even convinced the Borg, who designate the Yridians as Species 6291, that the species was no longer in existence. However, Rudolph Ransom, a Starfleet exobiologist, discovered that there were some still alive and carried out first contact. This act directly lead to his promotion to the rank of captain. (VOY: "Equinox")
The strange extinction of the Yridians can be explained by assuming that some natural (or unnatural) disaster befell the race sometime between the 2150s and the 2360s. It is possible that the group later encountered by Captain Ransom had not had previous contact with humanity and therefore counted as a true first contact. Presumably the numbers of Yridians are still very low.

Yridian script
Added by Runic codeAfter this point Yridians were encountered throughout Federation space. A group of Yridians learned of the research of Dr. Richard Galen sometime prior to 2369. The Cardassian Gul Ocett purchased the information they had obtained, and the Yridians later attacked Galen's shuttle to steal further data. Their ship was destroyed by the USS Enterprise-D before it could return to the Cardassians with its findings. (TNG: "The Chase")

A group of Yridians bought magnesite ore, stolen from a Pakled mining colony in the Kalla system, from the Duras sisters in 2370. (TNG: "Firstborn")
Culture
The Yridians were known to be targets of Maquis raids in late 2370 as Starfleet put together a Yridian convoy as lure for a Maquis attack. The convoy of six ships left Deep Space 9 for the Demilitarized Zone, destined for Cardassian space, carrying a supply of isomiotic hyposprays, plasma flares and quarantine pods. (TNG: "Preemptive Strike")

This also indicates that it was not uncommon for the Yridians to carry supplies through the DMZ and that they had a political relationship with the Cardassians.
An unnamed Yridian had dealings with Elim Garak, and in 2371 Garak identified the Yridian as someone who would want him dead. (DS9: "Improbable Cause")

Two Yridians used a gravimetric scanner to cheat on Quark's dabo table in 2373. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong")
Customs
An Yridian worked for Quark in 2373. (DS9: "Business as Usual")

In early 2374, during the Dominion occupation of Deep Space 9, an Yridian was seen in Quark's. (DS9: "Sons and Daughters")

Culture EditA Yridian called Paltriss created several rings, later known as the Rings of Paltriss. They became extremely valuable and, as such, were removed from the Yridian homeworld over time. In 2370, Quark came into possession of forty-two of them. (DS9: "Melora")
Technology
The Yridians exported several beverages to the Federation, Klingons, and Ferengi, including Yridian tea, Yridian ale, and Yridian brandy. (TNG: "Eye of the Beholder"; DS9: "The Sword of Kahless", "Who Mourns for Morn?")

The Yridian yak was also well known. (DS9: "Accession")

Technology Edit
Yridian ship
Added by GvsualanThe Yridians operated their own design of starship, seen used in both destroyer and freighter roles. (TNG: "The Chase", "Firstborn") Others were known to operate small warp-capable shuttles. (TNG: "Birthright, Part I")

Apocrypha EditThe conversation between Quark and Ashrock in "Melora" suggests that the Yridians do have a homeworld, referred to in the DS9 novel Hollow Men as Yridia.

In Star Trek Online, the Yridians are an upcoming Federation playable race. They are currently not released, but will be in a near-future content pack.

A race of humanoids known as dealers of information. Operators of several deep space freelance spy networks, Yridians can be considered sources of both legal and illegal information. They will sell their secrets to the highest bidder, and therefore are considered a threat to Federation security. Arrest warrants are outstanding for the leaders of the main Yridian spy networks. Physically, they are stooped over, grey-skinned humanoids with very loose, flacid, skin. Notables include Jaglom Shrek, Yranac, Yog, and the destroyer crew who sold the secrets of Galen's DNA puzzle to the Cardassians as a new energy source - in transmissions overheard by the Romulans. They are empathetically sensible, unlike Ferengi, Breen, and Dopterians. Natives use disrupters as sidearms. ==History==
By 2366, many Zalkonians began to undergo the process of evolving in to non-corporeal life forms. They began experiencing isoelectric bursts as part of this process. The Zalkonian people were frightened by those undergoing the change and their government began exterminating anyone showing symptoms. Some of those affected fled their home world but were ruthlessly pursued by the Zalkonian military, including Sunad.
In 2366, the USS Enterprise-D discovered a crashed Zalkonian escape pod, and rescued one survivor. This survivor exhibited almost complete memory loss and was named "John Doe" by Doctor Beverly Crusher. "John" began to undergo the symptoms of the change while on board. The Enterprise was intercepted by Sunad's ship. Sunad demanded John's return, but Captain Jean-Luc Picard refused to turn John over without an explanation as to the nature of his crimes. Sunad attacked the Enterprise, but John stopped the attack. Now that Sunad posed no danger to him, John finished his transformation and returned to his home world to help those undergoing the change do so in safety.
Government
They have a very repressive government that due to fear and misunderstanding seek to destroy all those who are undergoing the incredible metamorphosis into non-corporeal creatures.
Description
They are a humanoid race distinguished by multiple horizontal facial ridges on their foreheads. Males tend to have short dark hair and females will wear it longer to about their shoulder length. They seem to prefer clothes that are a pale in color with creams, white and pastels being the predominant shades.
Physiology
A fairly advanced humanoid physiology with fewer cases of disease or other ailments that are normally associated with sentient species.
Psychology
They suffer from many of the classical mental illness's that other advanced species suffer from. In particular a deep fear and panic when ever someone starts to undergo the transformation from humanoid to non-corporeal life form.
Religion
Unknown at this time.
Mythology
Unknown at this time.
Society
They have a repressive society where the people fear differences and will turn in anyone who seems to be suffering from the first stages of the change.
Culture
They have a wide range of artistic art forms but even these are practiced with in a set guide line of rules and expectations.
Customs
Unknown at this time.
Technology
Their weapons tech is the equal of the Federation in many ways and in a couple even superior however the rest of their technology is noticeably inferior to that of most Federation member worlds.
Economy
They have a fairly self sufficient economy but they do have long term trade relations with a few near by civilizations.
Military
They have a strong military with a surprising number of ships considering the size of their civilization.

Federation Intelligence Files
Federation Intelligence Files
The Zalkonians were an advanced humanoid species native to Zalkon. They desired to be isolated in 2366 at first contact with the UFP, as some of its natives were undergoing metamorphosis into non-corporeal creatures. The first sign of a Zalkonian turning into a non-corporeal entity is when they start to exhibit painful isoelectric bursts. Zalkonians are ruled by a repressive government that seeks to destroy all those who exhibit signs of this change. Within four years, at least some natives were involved with the Maquis on Volan III. See file # TNG-2366-2569 for more data.
