The 5th House of Betazed is one of many ancient houses on Betazed. To be a member of such a social class in Betazoid culture is to be considered descendants of the Goddess, Karawati, herself and a part of influential ancestry.
The Fifth House is known as the House of Nobility. They maintain rules, conventions and expectations of nobility for all houses. As such, they stay neutral regarding any affairs amongst the other houses of Betazed (arbitration for disputes between houses are conducted by the Betazoid Government Council, not the Fifth House).
