CURRENT SIM PLOTS
STAR BASE 118
After being thrown out of phase by a hostile alien race, several members of the crew were captured for experimentation by the aliens. Presumed dead by the crew in the correct phase, the prisoners were forced to escape their cells and face the aliens on their own. Finally one of them was able to break through and bring help back, eventually returning them to the correct phase.
USS CENTRIS
We have been asked to complete star mapping begun three years ago in the Beta Quadrant. It had been very routine, quite dull in fact, until we recently meet up with a Ferengi pleasure facility far from any space faring peoples. It is run by a woman known as a weapons runner, and several of its buildings are blocked from our sensors. We are attempting to discover the true nature of this bizarre set up.
USS FREEDOM-A
The USS Freedom-A has spent the majority of it's last month attempting to shake-down its repairs after crash landing in San Francisco Bay. However, during it's first flight out of the shipyards, it was ordered to a nearby planet to pick up some medical supplies.
While en-route, the Freedom met up with an unusual 'rip' in the fabric of space. Before anything could be done, the ship and crew were pulled through the rip into a sort-of fantasy reality.
As a result, each crew member had relived certain parts of their past, present and got a glimpse into the future to come. However, the keepers of this reality removed us from here and sent us back to normal space, not entirely explaining why.
We are now en-route to Seti Alpha 5 where Q and a member of the Freedom crew are located.

INTERVIEW
This month I am interviewing Lieutenant Katrina Ta'el, a female Terran serving onboard the Ranger as her Chief Medical Officer.
Why did you choose a career in StarFleet?
I joined Starfleet rather spontaneously, and I'm not a spontaneous person. Ever since I can remember, I had planned on becoming a local physician to work with my father in my little home colony where I was born and raised. However, when I heard about Starfleet and their need for doctors, I applied, and they accepted me. I'm not really sure what it was that made me inquire to them, but I did. No doubt the sense of adventure (which I have had a lot of since I joined Starfleet) had something to do with it, and the desire to see what life was really like in places other than my home colony.
Can you talk a little about your home colony?
My home colony? Let me see. There isn't all that much to say. It's a very small colony of maybe 150 people. It was much like any other small group with it's closeness and such. We had very little outside influence. Few of us went anywhere, and few outsiders ever came to visit or to immigrate. We were self-sufficient, and very family-oriented. There's many anecdotes I could go into, but nothing really peculiar of small colonies.
Are you satisfied with your decision to stray so far from home?
"Yes, I would say I am. It's nice to be out on my own; you know: the whole "independence" thing. I am learning so much about real life that I would never have even noticed if I'd stayed at home. So many experiences and adventures; I'm quite happy to be here."
And what are your long term goals here in StarFleet?
"I haven't totally decided yet. At present, I want to gain experience as a doctor, and tour around space learning many things and seeing many things through my travels. I want to be a good doctor, and contribute to the success of the crew of wherever I am stationed. At the moment I am on the Ranger and am very happy here, not eager to make another ship change for a long while."
And what do you do when you are not being a StarFleet doctor?
I do a lot of contemplating and reflecting. Also, I like to read, study and collect things. I've never really had much spare time before, so I haven't exactly developed any hobbies, as such.
And what are your long term goals? Do you want to move into command, or remain in medical? Do you see yourself still in StarFleet in ten years?
I feel most comfortable with the idea of remaining where I am, in medical. I am enjoying my time in Starfleet and do not see myself wanting or intending to leave, for a good long while. I'm rather satisfied with the way things are now. I suppose I'm not very ambitious, but I don't see a need for change.
Thank you for your time, Lieutenant, and for agreeing to be interviewed.
OUT OF CHARACTER
The flu season seems to be the most virulent we've experienced in a long while. I hope you are all staying well. However, if you do fall sick, please let your C.O. know that you will be out of the sim during your recuperation. And let's hope spring comes early this year, knocking these illnesses out of commission.
