Working with WordPress websites is easy, and as such, the expectation is that you'll be able to post more often. To make sure that posting stays fresh, here are some posting ideas that can hopefully inspire you!

General housekeeping items

Items in this section should be written from the OOC point-of-view.

  • Crew additions: Welcome new crew members onto the site by posting their name, character information, and a quick message.
    • Sample Text: "Please welcome Ensign Tristan Wolf to the USS Enterprise! Ensign Wolf is a Terran Male, and he is coming aboard as an Engineering officer, under Chief Hollis Calley. For more information see his [UPDS/WIKI] profile!"
  • Crew departures: Say goodbye to a cherished crewman by posting a notice about the crewman's departure, including how they are leaving IC, if applicable.
    • Sample Text: "Unfortunately, due to real life constraints, Lieutenant Tristan Wolf is retiring from service. In his time with us, Lt. Wolf worked his way up from a lowly Engineering Officer to Chief of Engineering. His presence will be missed, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors!"
  • Crew LOAs: Keep everyone up-to-date on who's around, and who's not by posting LOA notices. Bonus: Keep a page with each crewman's status!
    • Sample Text: "Unfortunately, due to real life constraints, Lieutenant Tristan Wolf is requesting a leave of absence. In his time with us, Lt. Wolf worked his way up from a lowly Engineering Officer to Chief of Engineering. His presence will be missed, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors!"
  • Crew promotions: This is a "gimme," considering that promotions must be submitted to the Captains Council each month as part of the ship report. These promotions should be listed on the site immediately.
    • Sample Text:
Please congratulate the following officers on their promotions!
* Ensign Tristan Wolf to Lieutenant Junior Grade
* Lieutenant Junior Grade Hollis Calley to Lieutenant
  • Monthly plot summary: Also an easy entry, as each ship must submit a plot summary of the past month to the Captains Council. Simply copy the entry in.
  • Interviews: Have an interview with another writer on the crew about their character. Do it in character, and ask them questions about their character's past, and goals. Alternatively, you could interview another writer on the crew and do it OOC, to learn more about the people behind the characters.

Real life crew-member events

Items in this section should be written from the OOC point-of-view.

  • Baby births: We've no shortage of future members! Any time one of the crew announces that they, or their spouse has had a child, be sure to post any information you have!
    • Sample Text: "The writer for Tristan Wolf, and his wife, have just welcomed a new baby girl to planet Earth! Please congratulate them on their healthy little girl."
  • Birthdays: Drop a note in a post saying Happy Birthday to any crew-member on their special day. Check the forum calendar for upcoming events.
  • Weddings: Congratulate crew-members on their happy day.
    • Sample Text: "Please congratulate the writer for Tristan Wolf, on his wedding to a new Star Fleet bride! The couple were married on June 1st, and Tristan will be on his honeymoon for the next two weeks. Best of luck to them on this new journey!"
  • Education Milestones: Congratulate crew-members on graduation from high school, college, or grad school.

In Character events

Items in this section should be written from the IC point-of-view.

  • Baby births: Treat any IC births almost like they're OOC, by posting the parents and baby's name, as well as stats like birth weight, sex, number of antennae, etc.
  • Weddings: Announce IC weddings/divorces. Because we're not worried about the privacy of the couple as we are in an OOC situation, feel free to give information like: full names of both characters, any parents involved, location of wedding, and honeymoon information. Include more information than you would for the OOC version, by including this version more detailed information on the bridge and groom.
  • Sub-plots: Many crew-members carry on intriguing sub-plots which don't get featured in the monthly plot summary. Be sure to recognize their hard work and make mention of these sub-plots, when applicable.
  • Shore leave: The beginning and end of shore leave should be noted on the blog. Be sure to note when it begins, where it's happening, and if you're feeling creative, post some "travel tips" for the local area including places the crew shouldn't miss visiting.

Special OOC events

  • Award recipients: recipients of awards from the yearly ceremonies should always be featured on the site.
  • Writing Challenge winners: If a member of the crew has won, or come in second on the Writing Challenge, post their name, a link to the winning entry on the forums, and the banner.
  • Top Sims Contest winners: Similarly, post the name, and a link to the winning Top Sims Contest entry.
  • Notable forum threads: If your crew is active on the forums, be sure to point them from the site to any interesting threads.
  • Hall of Fame: Be sure to create a "Hall of Fame" page on the site, and post the names of all recipients of awards, commendations, challenge/contest winnings there.

IC Ship Changes

  • Upgrades to the ship: Detail any upgrades the ship gets done while in drydock.
  • Shuttlecraft: Announce shuttlecraft addition/destruction and give history on the names of each shuttle.
