Talk:Blue Matter
Looking for information on this page and why it exists. Page is uncategorized. Failing to find any information on it, I propose deletion. Ben Livingston (talk) 08:05, 26 April 2014 (CDT)
- I'm under the impression that it was originally created to provide the difference between different matters (obviously). Whilst this is in discussion, I'm going to clean it up and add more into this - mainly because it is an interesting idea and could be useful for those simming characters interested in this topic, and for those looking for the differences between them all - saves people from having to search Memory Alpha for it, I guess. - Scratch that. We may end up separating the headings into different pages (since it seems like it was incorrectly named). Sky Blake (talk) 04:30, 27 April 2014 (CDT)
- I guess my question is about the subject "matter" altogether. Is this canon? Apocrypha? Canon to Starbase 118? I see no reference to it on Memory Alpha or Memory Beta (maybe I just missed it?). If we don't have an original reference from a Starbase 118 source, how are we "fixing" it? I would hesitate to introduce new material that has not been introduced in character to fulfill a simming need. Ben Livingston (talk) 20:41, 27 April 2014 (CDT)
- It's my belief that it's both canon (depending on the subject, as the page may be titled "Blue Matter", but there are headings for other different matter. Matter . . . 's? Matters's? ::sigh:: Anyway, depending on the one you looked up (I found dark matter just fine on Memory Alpha, mainly because it was mentioned a couple of times in Voyager) and, of course, red matter was used in ST 2009. I still think that it'd be pretty useful for those simming Science/Engineering officers.
- Like I said before, it may be better separating the paragraphs featured in this article and put into pages of their own, or renaming the article completely, as it's my understanding that each matter may be completely different . . . don't quote me on that and I apologize if I am absolutely wrong - it's obvious I'm not sciency/techy-techy in any way shape or form other than the wiki. Created nor destroyed....
Umm, this isn't strictly true. Its energy that cannot be created nor destroyed, matter can be freely converted to and from energy. This tends to be a common misconception resulting from the law of Conservation of Mass (particularly in its application to Special Relativity) where mass tends to be linked (incorrectly) to Matter, not Energy. In reality, "Certain types of matter may be created or destroyed, but in all of these processes, the energy and mass associated with such matter remains unchanged in quantity (although type of energy associated with the matter may change form)." - If you can fix it, I'd hug you. I kind of gave up last night after a lack of understanding the topic. You can tell that I'd never be able to sim a Science Officer, or an Engineer, successfully. :P Sky Blake (talk) 17:32, 27 April 2014 (CDT)
- I'll add it to my to-do list :p I think with a name change, a little reorganizing and a few re-writes this could be a really useful page! Lt. Commander James (talk) 18:30, 27 April 2014 (CDT)
- I finally got around to looking at this (I know, it's been what, a year :p) ) and I'm wondering if this should best be merged with A - F (chemical & particles)? The only problem is, with the exception of Red Matter and Dark Matter, I can't actually find any cannon (alpha, or beta) mention of any of the other types listed here. I'll be honest, I'm not even sure I understand parts of the others. For instance, Yellow Matter is described as being a type of plasma when really, all of these could be plasma as it's a state ofmatter like Solid or Liquid. Maybe it exists naturally as plasma? Without any source material, it's quite hard to say... Basically, I think we should just add Red Matter to the aforementioned page and call it a day. What does everyone else think?
