[[Image:Prometheus2.jpg|300px|left]] The '''USS Independence, NX-1776-A''', is the fifth [[ma:Prometheus class|Prometheus Class]] vessel built in the Fleet, commissioned and built at Utopia Plantia before dispatched to the Ithassa Region to replace the loss of the [[USS Independence]] during the Gorn Conflict. As with its predecessor, both ships have served under the command of Rear Admiral [[Anassasi, Jessa Kyrn|Jessa Anassasi]].

Prometheus Class heavy [[Starfleet Starships: Cruisers|cruisers]] are an onset of combat support Fleet vessels, designed primarily in response to technologically advanced threats Starfleet and the Federation faces. Developed from primarily the technology of [[ma:Defiant class|Defiant]], [[ma:Sovereign class|Sovereign]] and [[ma:Intrepid class|Intrepid]] classes, the Prometheus utilizes the latest in ablative armour, warp field technology and quantum weaponry. It is the only class ship which is capable of separating into three sections: upper engineering hull, lower engineering hull, and the saucer section, which are coordinated through it [[ma:Multi-vector assault mode|multi-vector assault mode]].

While the USS Independence-A is a tactical assault cruiser, it serves the whole, deep space exploration and diplomatic/military roles, utilizing the full advancements of science, medical and engineering facilities continuing the exploration and defense of the [[Ithassa Region]] as the Fleet’s flagship currently under command of Captain [[Mar, Idril|Idril Mar]], the ranking Officer within the region.
