Maz Rodan is an enthusiastic and adventurous Trill. He loves exploring the universe and finds excitement in most things. He is bubbly and friendly, yet sometimes often self-reflective. Although he has been Joined for almost a year, he is still coming to terms with the 'new' Maz. He enjoys sports, particularly hockey, basketball and bowling, and has a strong liking for Earth rock and roll. He's a lot laid back than other Trill, and enjoys socializing. He was born and raised in Mak'ala City, the capital city of Trill, and considers himself more cosmopolitan and open minded than Trill from other parts of the planet.

The eldest son of a family of seemingly ordinary Trill, he opted to join Starfleet and see the galaxy rather than accept a position at the Trill Science Ministry. His father is curator at one of the largest museums in Mak'ala City and has an interest in history, while his mother is a nurse. His mother had strong reservations about his Joining, since Maz was the first of the Nevrons to be chosen to be an Initiate. She believes that after the Joining, Maz won't be the same son. The rest of his family were supportive of his Joining. His younger brother Alam is about to graduate high school and has expressed an interest in joining Starfleet.
