Elegant, whimsical, but also slightly aloof and hieratic, Tahl has a brisk, indomitable manner who is never waylaid in deed and action though his inner contemplations reveal this is something of a front. While hardly cold or anti-social, Tahl values professionalism and can sometimes been seen as unsympathetic with his focus on the task at hand. Cultivated and tailored, Tahl’s glossy and cut-glass exterior masks everything else about him. Most will find that they know incredibly little about him personally and he rarely volunteers information about himself. He is a man who has an incredible amount of self-awareness in regard to his strengths and weaknesses, sometimes to the point of arrogance or self-deprecation. He constantly makes reference to the fact that he is a physics specialist but has proven time and again that his skills and considerable amount of background knowledge are much broader than he lets on, such as his ‘knack’ for electrical systems.

While his quarters leave little indication of his interests or personal history, Tahl has very diverse interests to compliment his diverse skill set. He is a champion fencer, a student of history, an accomplished velocity player, a prolific journal writer and likes to press flowers, having a large collection of dried flowers.

Presently a career diplomat and ambassador by profession, Atria has had other careers in the past that much is certain but since arriving in Federation space 70 years ago as a refugee she has worked with the Federation Diplomatic Corps. She is an expert on Federation-Cardassian relations and worked on the Armistace of 2370 before being assigned to the relief mission on Cardassia Prime in 2376. Since then she has settled on Earth, taking a teaching position at a University. Larien has had decidedly less focus on a career path than his wife though he has remained somewhat stationary out of consideration for his family and young son.

Tahl was born in mid-2369 to career diplomats on Maravel. His mother is an expert on Federation-Cardassian relations and helped to negotiate the peace treaty between the Union and the Federation. His father was a diplomat but he has been many, many other things during Tahl's lifetime. His early childhood is largely undocumented (or at least not in his Starfleet profile) but according to him it was very loving and happy. Tahl's parents were part of the Federation relief mission assigned to Cardassia Prime in the wake of the Dominion War and this is where Tahl spent his life from ages 7 to 18 and considers it to be more or less "home".

Starfleet was not an obvious choice for Tahl and neither was physics but when Tahl attended lectures at the Central University of Cardassia he found himself drawn to the higher problems and theories of physics. Previously considering himself not at all science or math oriented, Tahl pursued his interests from a more literary perspective and specialized in Astronomy. He was accepted to Starfleet Academy the next year and began a six year course in an integrated dual bachelors and masters degree program in Physics and the Philosophy of Science.
