Personal History

  • 235812.12: Shalom Moshe Winters born, now 24. Despite being born into a very happy home, a difference between Dinah and Michael created a rather large divide in the family, one which all the children have had to live with: religion. Dinah, rejecting the religious principles behind Judaism, viewing it merely as a desirable but ultimately cultural phonmeon, bought with her Shalom and Miriam, both of whom hold the same standpoint. The pair both excelled at sciences and mathematics in school, and often spent their time together when growing up poring over the books their mother had written (as well as playing in the holonovels their father had written).
  • Michael, however, was and is an observant, haredi Jew whose greatest holonovels were scifi adventures through philosophy and, covertly, questions of Jewish theology; with him stand David and Schlomo. David and Schlomo are both students of philosophy and theology, who have both been noted for their particular gift in dealing with these subjects. Schlomo particularly is also a very talented writer, like his father.

Into this environment was Shalom born.

  • 237706.29: Shalom finishes secondary education and applies to the Starfleet Academy to study Science and Engineering. He is accepted, but defers entry for a year to allow him to travel. He spends the next TWO years travelling around the Alpha Quadrant, the last year spent alone, having learnt to pilot a one-person shuttle from a one-time companion.
  • 237909.01: Enters into the Academy, no longer studying to become a Science or Engineering Officer, but rather a Tactical or HCO Officer. During his time at the Academy, he becomes very close friends with a Ktarian, Komo, who is training to become a Science Officer.
  • 238308.01: Graduates the Academy and is stationed after only three weeks on the USS Steadfast-A as a Security Officer. As luck would have it, Komo is stationed on the same ship as a Science Officer. They both arrive late due to a camping trip that overran. They make friends with another tardy ensign, Ens Chen Wu, a Chinese Engineering Officer aboard the Steadfast.
  • After the decommissioning of the Steadfast, the whole crew were moved together to the USS Walton. During his first mission of the Walton, Shalom lost his left arm from the shoulder down in a phaser fight with an enemy. He's had it replaced with a robotic arm on DS9 by Dr Beverly Crusher.
