What is the Role of the Ship's Counselor?

The Ship’s Counselor is one of the most difficult and in demanding positions in the UFOP. It is often misunderstood as being a limited role. This is unfortunate because in reality, the role of the Ship’s Counselor affords the simmer much more freedom to develop not only their character, but to interact in a more diverse number of ways with the other characters and the scenarios they develop than most other roles.

Counselor's Responsibilities

The counselor is responsible for a variety of tasks:

  • Assisting the command staff in evaluations, both IC and OOC.
  • Providing analysis and counsel to the command staff in diplomatic or first contact situations.
  • Providing a forum for the various other simmers to develop their character’s “backstory” or even help struggling simmers to better integrate within the crew.
  • Additionally, the counselor has many opportunities to work with the CMO as part of the discipline of making a clinical psychological diagnosis requires elimination of medical causes for maladaptive behaviors or neurotic symptomologies.
  • Last but not least, the counselor is responsible for helping to maintain the emotional and mental well being of the crew.
