The following is the history of all Starfleet ships previously named USS Endeavour.
USS Endeavour: NCC-1985
The first USS Endeavour (NCC-1985) was commissioned in 2270. As a Constitution Class vessel, one of the Federation's most intimidating designs at that time, it was assigned to patrol the Klingon-Federation border. Later it would be included in the Enterprise Class refit project that massively redesigned the Constitution Class and was the final major refit of that series.
In 2293, the USS Endeavour was part of a taskforce that would have been designated to execute "Operation Retrieve" to rescue Captain James T. Kirk and Doctor Leonard H. McCoy from Q'onos had the President of the United Federation of Planets accepted Colonel West's proposal.
The Endeavour continued to serve faithfully until 2353 when it was decommissioned following the signing of the Treaty of Alliance between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. At that time, her mission was deemed completed and her service no longer needed.
USS Endeavour II: NCC-71805
The next ship to bear the name would go on to patrol the Romulan border in the mid-late 24th Century. The USS Endeavour II (NCC-71805), a Nebula Class vessel, was commissioned in 2365 following the Enterprise's encounter with the Romulan Star Empire at the close of the preivous year. It was recalled to defend against the Borg in the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2367 and was the sole ship to survive that encounter. As a result of the Battle, Captain Amasov later reflected that "It is my opinion that the Borg are as close to pure Evil as any race we've ever encountered." (VOY: "Scorpion") After the battle, it returned to dry dock for repairs and remained there until 2368 when Captain Picard requested its service.
In 2368, it served in Captain Picard's taskforce which created a blockage along the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. It was the last ship to clear the drydock prior to the departure of the fleet from Starbase 234. During the initial deployment of the tachyon detection grid, the Endeavour was linked with the USS Ajax, USS Hood, USS Tian An Men and USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Redemption II") Later that year, the ship was assigned to a patrol circuit in the Cleon system. (TNG: "The Game")
In 2373, the Endeavour II again faced the Borg at the Battle of Sector 001. (Star Trek: First Contact) Having again received significant damage at the hands of the Borg, Starfleet Command decided to decommission her rather than conduct massive repairs a second time.
USS Endeavour: NCC-1985-A
Following the Gorn Conflict of 2383, Starfleet commissioned the Galaxy Class USS Endeavour (NCC-1985-A), and again assigned her to picket duty, this time along the Gorn-Federation border in the Ithassa Region as a constant reminder to the Gorn that the Federation is ever vigilant.
