Backstory

Marty joined the USS Ronin after being personally requested by then Tactical Chief LtCmd Amber Wilde from DS17. He first arrived at DS17 fresh from the Academy and while many other new graduates (such as Jack Kolk) were not too happy about having their first assignments out in the relatively unheard of Ithassa Region, Marty was delighted. He is always enthusiastic, positive and friendly, although he has made a name for himself as the proverbial 'Albatross' of the Ronin. Despite his optimistic outlook, he hasn't really got many friends, although he classes Jack Kolk as his best friend (He nicknamed him 'Jacky' to go with his 'Marty') and considers the real best friend of Jack (Jhen Thelev) to be Jack's 'Second Best Friend'. He is madly in love with Stellar Cartographer Crewman Che'tara, and tries at every opportunity to win her affections. Although he is assigned as a Tactical Officer, he actually works in Torpedo Maintenance, and his main workplace was the Ronins specialised Torpedo Magazine and Manufacturing Area and Torpedo Control Room. He is now assigned to the USS Tiger working in their Torpedo Control Room. His lifelong ambition is to hand build a Quantum Torpedo.

Medical Update

Whilst stranded with the rest of the crew of the USS Ronin on the planet nicknamed 'Rakis', Marty has recently lost his right leg after being attacked and maimed by a 'Land Shark'. He is also undergoing therapy with Counselor Ehlanii for trauma and guilt issues. After a few cases of angry outbursts, he is coming to terms with what happened, and had a prosthetic artificial leg implanted on DS17, allowing him to walk normally. In a standard duty uniform, you would never tell it was artificial.

Family

During the recent extended leave on Earth, Marty has visited his family in Atlanta. His father, Wilbur Devereaux, works for a privately run maintenance company who specialise in forcefields. His younger sister Alicia Devereaux is a musician, and was born blind. She has currently been given occular implants - similar to Geordi La Forge's - to help her see. There was mention of an older brother - Austen Devereaux - who is rumoured to be a bit of a tearaway and hasn't been in contact with the family for a number of years. Marty's mother died when he was very young, although no cause of death/backstory has been revealed yet.

Alandra Devereaux

His aunt, Alandra Devereaux was granted asylum aboard the Ronin after she quit her previous job as engineer on the pirate vessel 'Morgan's Bounty', under the command of rogue and rubbish pirate, Antilles Gillette. She protects Marty and is more clued up to the world than he is. She is currently requesting a civilian engineers position on the USS Ronin.
