Relationships

Madison Marsh
Close Friendship

Mac and Madison dated for the last two years of Madison's time at Starfleet Academy. During that time, they became very close. Due to them being unable to be assigned to the same posting, and the difficulties that long distance relationships in Starfleet come with, they decided to amicably break off their romantic relationship. Mac and Madison are still on good terms.

Alix Harford
Budding Friendship

Mac met Alix at the Academy. They had a couple of classes together. Alix politely rebuffed Mac's romantic pursuits a few times, never giving him a reason. The two never really became friends, and when Mac and Madison Marsh broke up, Alix blamed Mac for hurting her friend. They completed final training simulation together and graduated Starfleet together before being assigned to the same posting on Denali Station. After some time and conversations on Denali, the two seemed to moving towards a possible friendship.

Family

Background

Mac's Mother abandoned him with his father shortly after his birth. When Mac was 3 his father married Ruby. Mac had known Ruby his whole life as she was one of the ship's Medical Officers, and had delivered Mac aboard the USS Forester. His father, often busy with ship duties, always seemed to find a way to sideline a conversation about what happened to Mac's Rodulan mother. This lasted until after a fight broke out in his on ship classroom when two other kids decided to call him "Mommy's Reject". He left the scuffle untouched, the other boys however spent the night in Sickbay. Mac's father finally told him what happened. Mac's Mother had been planning to leave his father, but she had gotten pregnant. Mac's father convinced her to stay and have the child, afterward if she wanted to leave, he would ensure her travel to wherever she wanted.

After Mac was born she left. Mac's father attempted to explain to the best of his ability Rodulan culture and norms to Mac. Mac began to get in fights with children who had cultural differences that he saw as reprehensible. Mac had begun to spiral down a path of hating his Rodulan heritage. He spent a lot of time with the ship's counselor, who after several failed attempts to convince Mac to learn more about his Rodulan heritage and embrace who he was, eventually recommended they attempt to contact Lorel, so that Mac may gain closure. They never could find her.

Mac continued looking for his mother for several years after he turned 18, unrestrained by where his father's starship could go. Going from ship to ship, working and learning along the way, each ship would help him get closer to finding her, and his travels were not always with the most noble of crews. In the end he only found her grave site on the Rodulan home world, and after being permitted to visit the site, was abruptly shooed away by his Rodulan extended family, who blamed his father for her death. Mac returned to his parents, after staying with them for a while, and getting a chance to connect with his sister whose relationship with him had suffered due to Mac's troubled teenage years, he decided it was time to join Starfleet, just like his parents, who had been there for him all along.

Note: Mac picked up his nickname on his travels with non Starfleet crews. He grew so accustomed to it he still prefers anyone other than his parents or sister to call him by that nickname.
