Mirkl Zanti (MEER-kuhl ZAN-tee) is a young, anxious unjoined Trill who fears he'll never be good enough to become joined. He has always wanted to be joined but is starting to lose hope that that will ever happen and is unsure what that means for his value as a person and the direction of his life. He seemed to be on track for joining when he graduated from secondary school with an Integrated Science specialization and was admitted to the Trill Science Ministry; halfway through his first year, however, he dropped out and joined Starfleet instead. Was it due to not being able to hack it academically or emotionally? Will he be able to gain confidence and become joined, or will he need to learn that not everyone can be exceptional and that being average is ok?

Mirkl grew up in a region of Trill similar in flora and fauna to Earth's Japan and North American East Coast (Cfa, Dfa, Dfb Köppen-Geiger climate classifications). At the Academy, Mirkl specialized in Biological and Cultural Anthropology. He dreams of describing the morphology of newly-encountered humanoids and exploring their evolutionary history through ecological, environmental, and social selection.

He has large hazel eyes, dark brown hair, and typical brown-orange Trill spots that run from the crown of his head down to the sides of his feet.

Ensign Zanti is currently serving as a Science Officer aboard the USS Khitomer.
