The Artemis’ Engineering Sections are mainly confined to Decks 14-15, but has some areas on other decks.
Main Engineering
Engineering's primary purpose is to be the central point for control of all engineering systems aboard a starship, especially those related to propulsion and power generation. The matter/antimatter reaction chamber (also known as the warp core) is located in engineering. Main Engineering is spread over three decks (Decks 13, 14, and 15). You can find the Chief Engineer's Office here.
Chief Engineer's Office
The Chief Engineer's Office is located on the lower level of Main Engineering, on Deck 15. The office displays every ship's system and enables the Chief Engineer to access any engineering system straight away. If the captain asks for something, the Chief Engineer can answer from their office. The Chief Engineer aboard the Artemis-A is Lieutenant Hallia Yellir.
Lieutenant Yellir’s Office is what she calls ‘organized chaos’, her desk filled with PADDs with all the latest reports from her staff, while the far walls have cushy couches pushed against them. Near her workplace is a single colorful candle, a memento gifted to her in commemoration of her brief stint as Acting CO of the USS Berlin.
Power Distribution Systems
Power grid or power transfer grid is an informal term for a system that sends energy throughout a starship, facility or even a planet. These grids can make use of electricity, electro-plasma or any number of energy sources. The Federation makes use of a power grid known as the EPS, the primary energy distribution system on their ships and stations.
EPS
The electro-plasma system (EPS for short, or more specifically, the electro-plasma distribution network, as engineers like to call it) is the primary form of energy distribution on starships. On the Artemis, the EPS is processed through a Class XX Isolinear processing core.[1]
Antimatter Generator
An Antimatter Generator is a power generation device that utilizes antimatter. This is a part of the warp core.
Antimatter Storage
Antimatter storage pods (specialized magnetic confinement pods) are magnetized self-contained storage units which contain un-reacted antimatter fuel for a starship. Antimatter pods use an antimatter containment field to isolate the fuel within from contact with normal matter thereby preventing catastrophic reaction.
Fusion Reactors
A fusion reactor or fusion power plant is a power generation device which uses nuclear fusion to generate energetic plasma for various uses. The ship has two of these reactors that flank the Warp Core on Deck 14.
Warp Core
Warp Core is the common designation for the main energy reactor powering the propulsion system on warp-capable starships. The Artemis comes equipped with a Class XV Warp Engine, capable of sustaining up to warp twelve for close to twelve hours at a time[2], and the massive construct stands proudly across three decks in an open-floor room. Various catwalks and ladders are placed in strategic locations, allowing ease of movements to the various consoles around the core, as well as to the core itself.
Warp Nacelle Access
A nacelle is an outboard engine housing structure on spacecraft. This area is accessed from Deck 14, where long stretches of catwalk allows passage.
Impulse Assembly
The impulse drive is a common propulsion system used on starships to achieve high sublight speeds. This system is accessed from Deck 14.
Thruster Assembly
Thrusters are propulsion devices used aboard starships that generate very little speed but are useful in various situations. It is possible to use maneuvering thrusters to alter a ship's course, to rotate about an axis, or to move short, precise distances without the use of impulse drive.
Types of thrusters:
- Aft thrusters
- Bow thrusters
- Control thrusters
- Forward thrusters
- Guidance thrusters
- Landing thrusters
- Parabolic thrusters
- Polarity thrusters
- RCS thrusters
- Sub-impulse thrusters
Thruster Fuel Storage Tank
These tanks store the fuel used by the ships thrusters. They can be found on Deck 15 accessed via Lower Main Engineering.
Warp Core Ejection System
The warp core ejection system is a system aboard warp-capable vessels designed to eject the warp core in the event of a warp core breach in order to prevent the destruction of the ship. Activation of the ejection system typically requires security clearance of the Chief Engineer or a command position officer. This tactic is generally considered to be a last ditch effort to save a ship during a crisis situation and is often unreliable at best.
Deuterium Storage Tanks
The deuterium tank (or deuterium storage tank) is a component of the warp propulsion system aboard most starships that utilize a matter-antimatter reaction, such as Federation starships. The tank is designed to store deuterium for use in the warp core in order to provide power to the nacelles.
