PADD is an acronym for Personal Access Display Device. The PADD is the primary portable computing system used by Starfleet. PADDs can be constructed via replicators to produce a device to suit that particular user. PADDs can be used to control other devices and are highly integrated into the starship's computer systems. A properly configured PADD, with the correct security codes, could theoretically be used to fly a starship. Various Models Standard model PADDs can be replicated in various sizes. Specifications Operating System: LCARS Impact Resistance: Drops of up to 35 m Data Storage Capacity: Variable, typically from 15 to 100 kiloquads Communications The PADD contains a Subspace Transceiver Assembly (STA) for communication with other devices and can function as a communicator or a portable display for a subspace call. However, the device relies on the starship's computer system to which it is connected to achieve this functionality, unlike a standard communicator/combadge that can operate independently.
