• Notable marks: Sal has a scar along his right temple that is usually hidden by his hair. Perhaps this is why he keeps it as long as regulations allow?

• Poses: Usually relaxed, Sal likes to fold his legs underneath him or ‘perch’ on furniture when alert. When tired he tends to slouch or sink down into a languid drape.
• Voice: Sal has a remarkably smooth tenor, which strikes people as both soft and calming.
• Appearance: Short and slight with broad shoulders and pale skin, Sal looks a little like he just stuck his finger in a light socket. His eyes are a bit too wide, his smile a little crooked and his curly ginger hair has the aggravating tendency to stick up in random directions. That said, he always seems ready with a friendly smile and he stands with a calm, self assured posture.

History

Sal was born the youngest of three brothers to a well off family on the Betazed homeworld. His father was a minor politician and his mother came from a long line of family in various medical positions. As the baby of the family, Sal grew up well loved and slightly spoiled. Charismatic and popular while growing up, Sal has always been a people person. He used his charisma to get him out of trouble on multiple occasions while growing up, which led to a rather charmed and sheltered life.

Before Joining Starfleet, Sal was posted to The Federation research center of Deneva VI as a civilian researcher into artificial intelligence. He was part of a specialist mission to Ceabrin III to investigate a developing intelligence in the Ceabrin computer technology. The researchers found the Ceabrin constructed computers with biological components, and their computers had achieved a rudimentary sentience. This sentience was wreaking havoc on Ceabrin as computers started to backfire against their operators. Sal, believing he could control his telepathy to the utmost tried to mindlink with the computer with disastrous results.

As a result of the incident Sal’s telepathy is damaged. He spent over a year in rehabilitation from the accident, where he came into contact with Starfleet personnel and decided that research was not for him, nor was heading back to Betazed something he wanted to do. He enrolled in Starfleet seeking stability and, ironically, adventure.

Family Relationships Name Status Description Loros Taybrim Father (67) – Politician, Betazed Loros Taybrim is a quiet, studious man. Born from a long line of civil servants, he is something of an idealist. Never an over-achiever, Loros is the sort of man who craves stability over limelight, and always put his family before his career. He has a somewhat strained relationship with his wife, Brenna due to the fact that he was never able to live up to her expectations. He is, however, the hero and gentle voice of advice and guidance for all three of his sons. Brenna Taybrim Mother (62) – Pediatrician, medical institute of Betazed Brenna Taybrim was born to the upper middle classes of Betazed. Her family boasts many scholars, doctors and educators. A skilled telepath and a respected physician, Brenna greatly increased her husband’s social standing with their marriage. Early in her life Brenna lost her imzadi, Jethrin Kirlal – a Starfleet engineer – while he was on duty. Two years later she settled for settling down with Loros Taybrim. While Brenna is a devoted mother to her three sons, she has never quiet outgrown her contempt of Starfleet or her disappointment in Loros for not living up to the memory of her beloved. Kirin Taybrim Brother (40) – Starfleet Medical officer aboard the USS Della Nova Kirin is a skilled surgeon, specializing in neurochemistry and cryosurgery. Something of a rebel, Kirin always gave a hang what his family thought of Starfleet. He has a warm, friendly, boisterous personality. Seen as a 'father figure' by most of the doctors and nurses on the Della Nova, Kirin has settled into a long term relationship with his Academy friend Genvieve Williams. Unfortunately he is putting marriage on hold until he can convince his mother that marrying a Terran woman for love is more acceptable than being called back to be joined with a Betazoid woman for social standing. There is that little matter of Genvieve being pregnant that Kirin hasn't told anybody yet... Landin Taybrim Brother (37) – Psychiatry specialist working for the Federation medical institute, Denobula Triaxia Landin inherited all of his mother's telepathic skill and most of her neuroses. A shy, academic man, Landin likes to throw himself into his work to avoid too much draining social interaction. Landin enjoys dealing with people one-on-one by avoids large crowds and big parties. Growing up Landin was the most focused and academic of the three brothers, favoring reading or research over sports or parties. He was often the mediator of family disputes. Landin is close to his mother, Brenna. He is married to Elanna Taybrim, a Betazoid social worker - this was an arranged marriage by both families.
