Personal History)
Eki was abandoned on the Rihannsu planet of Hellguard. Like most unwanted children of mixed species, she left to die or survive according to who found her on the planet. She was taken in by a family of travellers, and as a small child was used to scam outlanders. The family would send her out to beg and to locate visitors to the planet with money. In turn they fed her, gave her a place to sleep and kept her out of the life style that would normally have befallen a young female child alone on Hellguard.
Frances Ewen (now adopted Mother) found Eki begging on the streets and took her back to the medical center that she and her husband were bringing supplies to. Eki’s intelligence and willingness to listen and her ability to adapt to her surroundings, made Frances want to get her off the planet and some place the girl could live a normal life. It took two years of haggling, but eventually the traveling family settled for a fee and let Eki go with the woman.
The following years were difficult for all in the family. It look longer than Frances expected for Eki to settle, but eventually she did. She proved her adoptive mother right. When she was 20, she asked to be sent to Earth to enroll in medical school. Her adoptive father suggested she also apply to the Starfleet academy when she finished her medical studies. This is eventually what she did.
After graduation, she was posted to a mining colony to help set up medical facilities around the planet. As the program was up and running, she received word that she was going to be transferred to a fleet ship, the USS Victory.
