Hayase was the middle of three daughters born to a union between Betazed Federation Diplomat Loren Hay and Sendara - a former officer of the Romulan Tal Shiar. Loren was stationed on Romulus as a diplomat for the Federation. Sendara was the intelligence officer who was spying on the activities of Loren Hay for the Romulan Government. One thing led to another, and an eventual confrontation between the telepathic Betazed Hay and Sendara led to an eccentric romance.
