Daughter of Jack Moretti and a Human female named Mary Baxter. She was born in Georgia, Earth, 1908. Having part El-Aurian heritage, Katherine has lived an extraordinarily long life, separated from her Human counterparts. She married a Human male, had children, and grandchildren, and outlived all of them, never looking older than her late twenties. She fled her home when they became suspicious of her heritage and wandered Earth for many years before the space age brought an understanding of what she was and where she belonged. She is now travelling the final frontier.

Not exactly friends, not exactly not either. The cut of her gib makes him laugh. He likes to keep up with the goings on aboard ship and keeping in with Operations is a good way of doing that. They are casual card game buddies and find time for a drink in the Officer's Mess when not on duty. She reminds him much of his daughter.

Jack was born on Earth to El-Aurian parents, traveling the galaxy. They tried to leave the planet with the youngster and found themselves at the end of a rope. Jack was raised in the Old West by an older couple who perished of age related disease when Jack was a mere teenager in Human years. He was not aware of El-Aurian heritage, and grew up as though he was Human, married a young woman, had a child, tried to forget that he wasn't growing old as his wife became grey and elderly. In a last ditch effort to find out what he was, he left Georgia and headed out into the wider Earth to find something of his heritage. He followed tales of Humans living to extraordinary ages around the world and was welcomed into a tiny collection of El-Aurians that had found their way to Earth.

With some knowledge of his life, and an eidetic memory starting to form after his El-Aurian adolescence had passed, he took a rather unscrupulous road of a trickster and con-artist. It fared him well as he sat by and watched politics change, generating an income he could live on, and finally when the space-age descended and the Federation created, Jack enlisted to escape Earth and begin his explorations of the universe.

He enlisted onto a Federation Starship, the USS Hathaway, fell in love with the ship and her crew, and stayed until he felt it was his time to step down and give someone else the chance to pursue a career on the ship he called home for many years. His unsavory past well behind him, he provided humanitarian aid in the catastrophe that was the Battle of Wolf 359, and again in the Dominion War. The major conflict persuaded him to re-enlist in Starfleet, only this time he attended Starfleet Academy and was pushed through his qualification due to his previous rank and extensive experience.

Growing up in the West, Jack is a dab hand with an old fashioned revolver and keeps up the practice on the Holodeck. This has earned him the nickname "Trigger" from his close friends and colleagues.
