The Tactical Unit of StarFleet is a vital assest to any vessel or base. However, a lot of people seem to find the line between Tactical and Security slightly blurred due, in part, to their similar roles on board ship.

The primary duties of the Tactical Officer are to keep weapons in a ready state and defenses ready for use at a moment's notice. They execute firing solutions and prepare methods of defensive and offensive action for the Command team to decide upon. Most Tactical manouveres are developed and executed by the Tactical team, making the Officer exceedingly valuable on a Starship Bridge. Tactical is responsible for all defensive systems (shields, phasers, photons, etc.) When ordered, the Tactical Officer is in charge of firing weapons, assuming responserbility for weapons systems and collecting damage information from the sensors.

Tactical Officers keep a database on the LCARS system which updates itself with information of vessels scanned and their weapons equipment for future reference. On duty, both Tactical and Security coordinate with one another in the persuit of similiar goals and objectives.
