Growing up on Xelata, Zevash heard stories of Federation and Xelatian cooperation since he could communicate. His parents, Laglol and Zogni, worked as Federation Diplomatic Corps members and left for off-world missions fairly frequently, while he was left at home to not stunt his development by removing him from the water. It was during these often long periods when he was left at home with his older sister V’lan, who would regale him with the past stories of his parents’ exploits, sparking a curiosity about the alien life forms he had heard so much about, yet had never seen in the flesh.

While V’lan was at home in the oceans of Xelata, working in shipyards to design the newest Xelatian craft, Zevash felt a need to satiate his curiosity and applied to Starfleet Academy. There, he specialized in xenobiology and chemistry, with a minor in nanotechnology, intending to learn about all the diverse ways life can take hold in the universe.

While at the Academy, Zevash became used to life in an environmental suit, though that was not the biggest change he noticed around him. The ways in which humanoids communicate, through sound and gestures, were not alien to him, yet were jarring nonetheless. Ever the scientist, he relished the opportunity to observe these new and interesting behaviors presented before him. After his first year, he had practically assimilated, feeling much more at ease in the chaotic and noisy environment he found himself in, an essential skill when preparing for a Starfleet career.
